Back when I was still doing tire monkey type work, a guy came in with a nice Land Cruiser, with an ARB front bumper and a huge dent in the passenger door. I complimented the bumper, and he told me he put it on after hitting a deer to make sure that he wouldn't damage the truck if he hit another animal. The dent in the passenger door? A month after putting on the big fancy bumper, a deer came out of the ditch and ran headfirst into the passenger door.
For reference, an ARB bumper looks like this:

I really wish that the major insurance companies would offer some policies that consider the situation of the enthusiast, instead of throwing us into the pot of "appliance users" that constitute most of the US public. Why increase my premiums just because I have more than one car? If I don't add another driver to my policy (in my case, I don't need "emergency driver" coverage either, I don't need it, since SHMBO/our roomate/my daughter can't drive a manual tx in the first place..sigh), it's impossible for me to drive more than one of them at a time!
It's likely because many of the appliance users who have 3 or 4 cars don't add their son/daughter/deadbeats/spouse to the policy (and deny they exist until a claim happens and then it just so happens to be the first time they have lent them the car).
So it turns out all 3/4 cars from the appliance user are on the road, and the insurance company believes collecting some premium for every car is better (even if it's not as much as it should be) then collecting premium for one car and still allowing all of them to be driven at any given time.
Unfortunately the dishonest people screw it up for the rest of us.

Figures.
I think a deer ran into the side of my car as well. There's a strange dent in the drivers side door.

You should ask your teenage son about that first...

I think I see what you're getting at here. It's not just us enthusiasts that own more than one car, and many non-enthusiasts are trying to reduce their own premiums by using the "emergency usage" coverage to cover up abuses of their policies. They're doing that by pretending that the accident their "son/daughter/deadbeats/spouse" has is actually the first time any of them has ever touched the car, even though the policy holder has been letting those folks use it for quite some time before the accident.
No small wonder so many insurance investigators suspect everyone of fraud. Thanks for the "heads-up", dude. I'd never considered their side of the thing before..I guess that I've always looked at my own insurance needs from the filter of my own usage, and forgot that there are some people out there who would actually do something different.

Yeah. That seems to be a common theme in much of society..my dad once told me that it only takes about 2% of the human race to berkeley things up for the rest of us. The more I learn about life, the more I quote his opinion.
It was really much worse, but I didn't want to post gore pictures on the board.
