"Frenchy II: Transit to Frenchy's"
@FlordPerformance - whats your opinion on Jaguar V12s?
If you're refering to the engine, can't say I like it, too complex. Though while in an XJ-S had one, drove it. but entirely too tight and very uncomfortable for my tall stature. I wouldn't be able to fit in one today.. Typically my buddy would drive the XJ-S while I drove the 64 Sunbeam..

Also, just to add.. this isn't my build thread to begin with.. so I'll not post here anymore about the van unless the oper request it.
oh and as for "we" and "I".. there's no I in team.. yes the build was and is a team effort.. If I did the build myself I would have used the term I..
I'm glad you came back and I hope you'll stick around and interact with everyone. My parents had one of these vans. I'm quite tall and I couldn't figure out why the back sets were so high up.
Unrelated: before or after suspension mods - Have you ever felt the van get near the point of rollover? Has all the effort been worth it?
The only issues with either the 2015 or the 2020 vans was that I could not see the interment cluster/gauge as there is this hood thing on the dash covering or extending out beyond the gauges. I don't recall feeling anything remotely roll over with the rear of the van even while it had the taller cargo springs. Though installing the lowering springs I was feeling more aggressive while driving. able to turn on a dime and take corners faster.
The issue is that the van is not very aerodynamic and the wind will blow it from side to side. We've not bene pulled over yet thinking I'm drunk.. I can't imagine anyone living in the plains states driving one of these vans on those open roads. Another issue was going from the taller cargo springs down tot he 40mm lowering springs is that the rear is too low, this set the front of the van up higher. so installing our new raise slightly springs will level off the van. That's going from 101.6mm down to 40mm then having the coil springs sag over the 2 years of driving ending up with 34.5mm. Our new springs are 2'' shorter and 20% stiffer than OE were now looking at a 59.3mm lift or lowering depending on your view point. All I can say is with the new springs, the van will be lifted up from its squat position and gain a bit more wheel clearance.
worth it going from 101mm to 40mm? No.. I thought once we wanted a stance van, you know they say if the fenders don't scrub, you're not lower enough.. My trouble is that my wheels offset is 40mm they actually needed to be 42mm so that they could tuck within the fender well. Going from 34mm to 59.3mm is worth it because these springs are designed to lower the van, but retain the towing or hauling aspect. the 40mm springs were not deigned to handle the towing or hauling.
if anyone is going to lower their van and still use it for towing or hauling you can either buy our springs.. or install air bags.. or go with a set of coil over which we're not a fan of. Our springs are a stiff set of coil overs but without the overs.. They are very stiff and heavy duty. one can use the factory shocks or the Bilstein B6 or alternative shocks for this application.
One more thing I'll add here, at some point we will consider redesigning the front coil springs, not to lower just stiffen them up, just to make it a total package and like coil overs but without the overs.. or inner shocks.
Just as a side note to this, I wanted to say that even though these new springs are stiffer and shorter than OE once we have them powder coated the springs will lose some of their rigidity due to the high temp of the kiln and they may sag (highly unlikely) over time.. more like settle over time which is what we needed. This upcoming trip should be a good test for the springs once installed.

Keith is posting here cause no one can reply on the blog.
Keep posting. Start your own thread if you need to.

This comment was unnecessary. Please stop it.
Edit: Also, 93gsxturbo., come on, you're better than that.

Totally unexpected.. the powder coaters just called and our springs are ready for pick up. I gave them till Dec 9th to do them heading out now to pick them up.

i think i'd like a maverick. I loved the transit connect i had for work.
Is it?
I'd be very tempted by an AWD turbocharged Connect.

I'd love to see some current pictures of the van.

The 13+ Transit connect is on the Global C(1) Car platform (Volvo/Maza/Ford)
The Maverick is on the C2 platform which is a newer version, but has no Transit Connect (yet?)
I would be super tempted by a Hybrid Connect

Did you notice that Tom Suddard has interacted with him? He owns the website here and is (apparently) willing to give him a third chance. I value forgiveness.
FlordPerformance definitely has good things to offer the community here with his knowledge. If you don't like it, just stop popping into his threads. Easy enough.
Relax, everybody. Disarm, relax, have some holiday spirit and welcome our newest forum member.
FWIW, I haven't talked to our newest member in recent memory--but likely exchanged a few emails last time they stopped by our forum.

False alarm.. we started out heading that way which would have been more than 1 hour drive for us, but due to holiday traffic which would have taken us longer to get to the shop before closing, We'll wait till Monday to attempt driving out that way to get the coil springs.
Tom Suddard If anyone is clueless, yes this is LostInTransit
Just a note about the Maverick AWD set up.. According to spy picks.. the Maverick is AWD and will more like a panel van.. just with the longer ford truck type front end.. it will look like the Nissan NV truck only smaller or look more like the Ford flex. As for the Transit Connect over seas.. it's still going but with yet again another redisigned front end.. it's sort of evolving into the VW caddy because it's based at or near the same platform.

The C1 platform includes the Kuga (which is why that sway bar was a good bet to try) but also the 3rd gen Focus. Which includes the RS. Please, someone do this.

Several people have done that. Apparently it's not very difficult. It is an interesting solution to the "I don't love the transmission" problem.

Yes, it would solve the transmission problem. :)
Toyman has the skills. Let's see just HOW tempted he is...
In reply to Keith Tanner :
If i could buy one, fairly tempted.
To build...I think I'll stuff a 6.2 in the Hummer.

I agree with you. On that note, let's invite Frenchy back then. Same theory, he has good things to offer and if you don't like it, dont click.
In reply to Steve_Jones :
Let's not.
Frenchy had a bad habit of E36 M3ting in the middle of every thread he took a passing interest in.
We don't need him telling everyone how a Tesla Model 2 is a better work truck than an F150 and Elon promised him they would be out in 6 months for $22k.
In reply to FlordPerformance :
Welcome back to the forum.
Of all the vehicles that one can modify, why did you choose the Transit Connect?
The wife tells me. I can't keep my hands or my ideas off the new cars we buy. I've never had a bone stock car because I've always did something to them, new tires wheels, something would end being done to them. Not that she didn't like it, just I'm was always tinkering with the cars.
This all started when I felt others whom had these vans were not giving them a chance and either just left them as utility vans or the dread camper conversions.. Then what really got me started to want to do something to the van was after hanging the forums, owners started complaining they wanted to lift the van and make it an off roader.. I hated the idea and went in the other direction after seeing cars/trucks the stance community. I guess other things like rumors that some parts from the Focus etc would fit the van which had me going. The build has lasted or taken me 4 years to thoroughly research parts and although I'm not that technical nor was I able to get any sort of help searching for parts, I had to do this myself. 90% or so of those parts I searched for we ended up buying them from UK because not too many north American shops or stores had these parts or would even consider selling me these parts. It was considered taboo or something one wouldn't have modified.. "leave it alone" they said, or "that will never work" they said.. it was allot of trial and error and we lost money on parts that never fit based on rumors.. Rumors turned out to be just that rumors..
In UK they do these things to their vans as if it's normal. creating things like the MS-RT van.. a super sporty looking van with a lowering body kit and 18" wheels. yet I wasn't able to locate what type of suspension parts they used on this van as the company who made these vans was tight lipped.
We think about the van like this.. it's a sporty Ford Focus ST/RS.. but with room in the back to sleep and that's just how we use it.
