That might be a good thing. The last time I was there the food was pretty bad. That's been several years ago. Maybe they will do better with burgers.

It was also pretty expensive for what it was, but it’s been quite a few years since I’ve been there too.

Can confirm that as of six months ago, the food was still pretty bad, as well as the coffee.  Honestly would have been happier going to McD's.

That said, you can get a burger anywhere in the USA, so I'm not sure if this is really going to work out.

As long as they still make the Colorado omelette. I've never been disappointed with that.

...though a burger between two pancakes sounds like something I’d be willing to try.

Worse than Denny’s and way worse than WH. So I really don’t care, and won’t be going there for a burger.

Woah now. In no way shape or form is WH better than the worst Ihop. No way.

And here I assumed the change to a b was to breakfast and not just pancakes. If I wanted a E36 M3ty chain burger I'd go (not by choice) to Red Robin. I had a brother in law who loved that place, he was suckered in by free refills on fries and that they had a bonus points card that kept drawing suckers back in for dried overcooked burgers devoid of pepper in their seasoning. But season all on the fries and bbq sauce is a cure all to the average American palate I guess. I will give RR this though, bottomless refills on root beer floats is strong. I've managed 8 in a sitting while choking down one of their excuses for a burger.

For those of us who are uneducated, what does WH stand for?

As a northerner, I'm guessing Waffle House.

I see them everywhere once I pass the Mason-Dixon on the way south.

I've never had a bad meal at IHOP.  Granted I don't go there that often since I make the best pancakes on the planet, but their food has always been good.

Living in NJ, I have my choice of any number of 24hr diners to choose from. I do not need a chain to get food at 3am

Went to one often in Columbus OH, went to one near Pittsburgh...  Dont think they are uniquely a southern thing.  Look to be more of an east thing though.

I have 4 kids--kids eat free at IHOP and adult entree prices are low. When we eat there we always stick to the breakfast menu items, but I'd be willing to give their burgers a shot.

My coworker was just telling me this morning the rehearsal dinner for the wedding he attended this weekend was catered by Red Robin. I was unaware they even did catering. WTF is wrong with people?

You're spoiled by having independent diners to go to. There used to be a few around Baltimore, but they've fallen off as of late, either closing at 10-11pm to avoid a drunk crowd, or realizing that they can charge $16 for pancakes, 2 eggs, a side of bacon and a biscuit because hipsters and college kids from NJ who attend school down here will still go crazy for it. They've developed a level of pretentiousness that's by nature, very un-diner-like.

WH is pretty much the diner of the south. It doesn't have the delightful baked goods or as vast of a menu, but it's unapologetic for what it is. Simple basic food with the right amount of salt and grease and a kick of extra syrup in your cherry coke. The simple true and awareness of what each is have also made each part of the fabric of the community and staple of the region where they exist.

I'm not seeing the problem -- rehearsal dinners are often really informal.  Mind you I live in the South, but I've been to wedding rehearsal dinners at Cracker Barrel and at BBQ joints.

I've never  had a good meal at Waffle House.  Actually, I've never even had a moderately decent meal at WH.   I don't get the fascination.....maybe I'm ordering the wrong thing.   I think the last time I had an omelette, which was runny, and pretty terrible.   I've been there a handful of times, always out of late-night desperation, and it was always bad.  I don't see myself ever going there again.

Of course I also don't think In & Out burger is all that special.  Sure it's clean and decent, but it's just a fast food burger--- nothing to write  home about.  They will give you a paper hat......so I guess that's something.

The problem isn't an informal menu, at my buddy's rehearsal dinner the week prior we just ordered pizzas and stuff from the local Italian joint and it was great. The problem is that it's Red Robin. I share the Captain's disdain for their crappy burgers.

Edit: And I'll add that some of the best food I've had at weddings has been BBQ.

Like kudzu, Waffle House started in the South but makes it a little farther north with each passing year.
