Very seldom go out to get a hamburger but when I do I go to Fuddrucker's.
Whoa! I didn't realize they were even still open. I don't think I've seen one on more than a decade.
Seem to be a Mid-Atlantic thing. I go to the one in Rockville, MD
I've eaten at at least two in Florida, and two more in Minnesota.

Fat Burger uber alles!!
How no one has mentioned it at all in this chain burger discussion is just sad.
And an honorable mention to Squeeze Burger. 5 locations counts as a chain right? Right. The star of the show there is the cheese though, so I can see if you're for some reason not a fan of melted cheddar overlooking them.
I left Fatburger and Smash Burger off my list because of limited availability, but, honestly, they're both probably more prolific than Habit. They'd both be competing for the 3-4-5 zone spots in my list.
We dont have fatburger anywhere fl, do we?
Nah they're pretty much just west coast. i think maybe Colorado is as far east as they come.
This thread has gone far further than imagined. lol

Also important international cities, Riyadh, Tokyo, manila, etc. The only one I've ever seen was also in the casino by where I lived. Which made it difficult to choose what to eat. Best steakhouse I've ever been to, one of the best buffets I've ever been to, fat burger, and a phenomenal sushi joint. And for some reason a pizza hut and some fast food Chinese place, because choices I guess.
This thread, combined with the local constant rain, is really making me want to fly out to Sacramento for a weekend. Good thing I'm broke.
We had a fat burger here at the Borgata. Then the company running "the marketplace" decided to go all generic on the food court

As long as we've drifted to chain burgers, here's the definitive list:
Culvers > Habit > Shake Shack > 5 Guys > Whataburger > In-n-Out > rest of the field.
Fight me.
The only one of those I've been to is a 5 Guys. Not only was the burger borderline and the fries soggy, the entire place was hard surfaces. I've been to night clubs that are quieter. Horrible place. I haven't been back since.
If I've going for a decent burger it's going to be Big Billy's Burger Joint. Locally owned by a fat guy. Their Breakfast Burger is awesome. MR with the egg over easy please.
When the bar down the street offers:
And I can add avacodo or a local free range egg if I desire. The argument regarding chains is null, 18 craft beers on draft doesn't hurt either. After over 29 months of tuna steak (which I loved prior to) and boneless skinless chicken breast, I've learned that life is too short for burgers that are a compromise.
I also highly recommend Abbey's burger bistro in Baltimore (2 locations) their offerings are not photoed.
The only burger chain I really go to by choice is White Castle. Anyplace else I go is out of convenience. I don't know how pricing is around the country but here McDonald's, BK, etc have gotten into diner territory price wise so unless I'm in a big hurry I'd rather eat a nice burger at a table off a real plate.

Culver's at the top? Really? The best they ever gave me was"...Ok." I was never wowed by them to the point that the burger was a destination. But my pallette is tempered by my cheapness aND lack of money. I will eat the E36 M3 out of Steak n Shake's 2 for $3 promotion. I can get 4 Southwest burgers for less than a Culver's meal.
Remember my mantra of lower your standards.
Ha! I just ate 4 tonight after a 15.5 hour day. Thoroughly satisfied.
Berkeleying burger snobs.
If I want a fast burger it's steak & shake. Good chain burger it's fudruckers. Everything else it's Whataburger. There are enough little restaurants in this town that weekend rarely have fast food. Biggest chain we regularly eat at is fuzzys. The good one in Willow Park with the bar, not the crappy one downtown with the premixed drinks lol
Where do Wendy's burgers fall in line with yall?
In reply to wvumtnbkr :
They exist and I acknowledge them as food when I'm sober.

Probably my favorite of the common chains you can find anywhere. If I'm driving somewhere and have to stop for fast food, it's most likely gonna be Wendy's, unless there's a Chik-Fil-A or some oddball regional chain nearby.
Of the big 3, Wendy's is tops. McD's is sad and flat (although I get an insane craving for the OG burgers about every 2 years), and BK tastes like,a,syrofoam cup.
Seriously, the next time you have a foam coffee cup, bite it. The taste is the same of a BK burger. Gross.

I will admit to once in awhile getting a craving for a double quarter pounder.
Then spend the rest of the day feeling like a bear that took a tranquilizer dart.
Wow. Six pages already. You guys like discussing burgers almost as much as discussing sex with multiple partners.

A really good burger is almost as enjoyable

A burger is like sex. Even when it's bad, it a hamburger.

I could easily live out the rest of my days without having sex. I don't think I could do that with hamburgers.

Arguing that local non-chain specialty burger places serve a better burger than regional or national fast food chains do is right up there with "used cars are cheaper than new cars" on the Thank-You-Captain-Obvious scale.

Wendy's burgers aren't bad for fast food, but their fries are so subpar that I rarely if ever eat there.

See, to me, Culver's is the promise of Steak & Shake fulfilled. S&S is pretty solid, but Culver's seems like they take the same style of burger and just make it... I dunno, better? A little more thickness to the patty, but still the smashburger style burnt edges. Nice soft bun, but that retains some structure.

Every word of this is true.

And this is sad because Wendy's used to have amazing fries before they changed them to be crappier for reason which elude me.
Best Burger of my life?
Garryowen Irish Pub in Gettysburg. Irish Whiskey Cheese...
2nd place removed what I liked from the menu. Barley and Hops in Frederick had a burger called the Hoof and Claw. Burger with a crabcake on it too. I miss it.
