Skateboard. Yep, a little piece of wood with 4 wheels. Not a long board either, a Alien Workshop Steve Berra pro model.

Why you might ask? Because my 11yo son has been into skateboarding for 3 years now and he is getting REALLY good and his interest isn't waning, only getting stronger. After having spent last Wednesday with him at the skatepark I thought it would be nice if I could skate with him.

Now while I used to race and ride BMX bikes for 20 years, I gave that up 5 years and 40 lbs ago. Some muttering from the missus about a torn ACL, separated shoulder, and a broken clavicle will do that. So I was somewhat surprised about her approval of my newest foray into extreme sports.

Cue the ambulance in 3...2...1...

I had one of those put me in the hospital when I was 13. I haven't been back on one since. Good luck and spend at least that much on safety gear.

Damn... you are braver than I... if there's one thing that age has been teaching me lately, it's I don't heal and definitely don't bounce like I used to.

Amusingly enough I still have the first skateboard I ever had - from 1985.

Good for you. I loved to skate board as a kid, and I wish my dad would have tried it with me. Now I am quickly approaching 40 and while I no longer really skate board like a kid I can still get around on one much to the entertainment to my co-workers. I also still have my first serious skateboard a Smith Kamikazie circa 1982, it's a little worse for wear but still around.

I'm for anything that keeps you young. My New Year's resolution was to finally be able to do the splits... and I'm almost there

I'm 52, built myself a new (old school) 20" BMXer last week so thats my fun this week. Skateboards on the wall ready whenever I'm in the mood. Wear all the safety equipment you have, doesn't do you any good in the closet. Don't kid yourself that you can do what you did at 15 and you'll be fine.

Good to know a 50-year old bag can still elicit that kind of reaction...

I'm...well, over fifty. In fact, well over fifty and I can almost touch my toes. I was elated when I could see them when I was standing up.

I used to want to build dirt jumps in my back yard... now I'd be happy with a pump track.

33 and I bought my dream bike (when I was in higschool), N.O.S. for $300 last year.

I love being a grown-up, I can buy whatever damn toys I want and I don't have to share with ANYONE!

I'm 40 and the last thing I bought was a Kamei reproduction front spoiler for the BMW. I sold my bikes to fund my Megasquirt project. No skating for me and I cannot do the splits.
