If Whataburger is a close second to In'n'out then definitely put me in the squarely in the five guy's camp. 7 out of 10 times I'll hit up McDonalds before Whataburger.

In-N-Out decided to elevate the fast food hamburger to an art form. Next time you go, before chowing down, see how much care they take in placing the ingredients between the buns correctly, with the burger just peeking out of the wrapper.

Five guys is having some ground beef on hand and deciding to clean out the fridge.

Don't like 5 Guys, Bagger Daves gets my local vote.

Definitely Fatburger if you find one. It's endorsed by George Foreman too.

My favorite burger is from a classic dive bar in Ft. Lauderdale, Southport Raw Bar. Mostly a clam and oyster place, but they put this little shed up by the parking lot with a young guy and a big charcoal grill. The kid is a master. Perfectly done, good meat, BIG, good bun, what ever condiments you want. 5 Guys? I went once. Nuff said.

Whenever I go to Vegas (2 or 3 times/yr) that exact In and Out is close to a first stop. Fan of 5 Guys, too, but prefer IN and Out. Also a fan of Fatburger and the ShakeShack.

Yeah, Whities are the hamburger equivalent of Chicago deep dish pizza - it may be delicious, it may be what you crave, but it's not pizza. Belly bombers are a food unto themselves.

No idea how I forgot about Squeeze Inn, ate there almost weekly when I lived in Lincoln.

Going back to the original question, the answer In-N-Out. There is a 5 Guys and In-N-Out within walking distance of each other in my town. They both good. If you don't get to In-N-Out territory often, then you need to go enjoy one.

Squeeze Inn had to move when that SOB ADA lawyer that sues everybody that has a door 1/4" too narrow or the handrails in the bathroom are a little too shiny. Lil Joe's on Del Paso Blvd stuck a thumb in his eye and instead of paying him or ruining their place, got themselves declared a Historic Site.

All the best ones are little burger stands, not chains. There was on in southern Oregon on I-5 that was really good, outside of Roseburg maybe.

I like a place that has sweet potato fries.
