Yeah, I wasn't a huge fan of Within Temptation's set, and I generally really like them.

No spoilers, but I thought the set spans a nice cross section of their career. And IMHO not a single dud in the performance.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
Have they ever done a deep cuts tour?
How about a set list heavy on Brave New World, The Final Frontier, A Matter of Life and Death, Dance of Death, etc.?
I just... Cannot believe they're still touring. I mean, I saw em in the goldern 80's! Them fellers are kinda amazing they rly are..

I would love to see a Dance of Death retrospective tour - especially since it is 20 years old next year. It was a the album that really got me back into Maiden when it came out and I still listen to it often. Unfortunately, I didn't gel with any of the records after it until Book of Souls.

I don't think so - I think pretty much all the tours I was aware of were after the release of a new album.

Heh, there were quite a few people in attendance who looked like they've seen them in the 80s . I wasn't the only one with long grey hair in the audience.

If only to hear this live:
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Definitely. One of my favorite songs on that album. Especially as a singer and a guitar player. Holy berk is that hard to play and sing at the same time.
Consider me notified and highly interested.
On a related note, my wife and I just saw Queenryche with Judas Priest. I consider this a must-see combo for a couple of reasons.
1. QR was absolutely fantastic and possibly stole the show. They have new music which (finally) might get close to as good as the material which gave them some fame. I have seen them in concert seven times, and this ranks as a top 3 performance in my eyes. Todd LaTorre has some chops and doesn't come off like an imitator, just a really strong vocalist.
2. Judas Priest was good, not great. Rob Halford no longer has the pipes to hold big, long notes and candidly all of them look...old...
While were there I Googled RH to discover he is beyond 70! I'm left to conclude that this could be one of, if not the last tour they do.
Queensryche is definitely on my list to go see if they come to the area again - we've seen them a few times.
I'd love to see Maiden play "Empire of the clouds" live, which is probably one of my favourite song of theirs, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

Have you seen the Children of the Beast live cover of that song? They do it with a full orchestra.

Yeah... a concert of their epics would be... epic.
In reply to Ian F (Forum Supporter) :
I had not, thanks for sharing. That is an *epic* version of this song.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
And I'm assuming it would be tough on the band. Maybe a “one night only” thing. (Currently listening to Phantom of the Opera which is only 7 minutes long.)
On another related related related note since we seem to share musical tastes...
If you get a chance to see Last In Line do that. They are some fabulous players and when I saw them on their last tour they played a tiny venue in Milford CT and there were maybe 200 people there.
They blew the roof off the place and I think I paid $20 to get in!
Happy to report that the recent Columbus, OH show was FANTASTIC, once Maiden took the stage. Not much love for the opening band was sensed, to be honest, but Maiden killed it. And yup, I am one of those in the crowd who was able to see them in the (later) 80's. They are definitely still on top of their game!
I would definitely like to see Last in Line sometime. Vivian Campbell just out there having fun.
I was lucky enough to see Queensryche back in their prime. It's been ages, tho... part of me wishes they would kiss and make up with Geoff Tate, but at the same time I'm not sure his vocals are quite what they were in the 80's. Unlike Bruce, who even in his late 60's, is damn close to what he was in the 80's, Tate doesn't appear to have taken care of himself as well. I think part of it is Maiden haven't really ever stopped touring, so Bruce hasn't really been allowed to get out of practice - and I can definitively say, to sing like him you have to practice. A lot. And it's easy to hurt your voice if you're not careful.
I've not seen Last in Line live, but I've got one of their albums and like it. Probably should keep an eye out for when they're touring.
I actually like Queensryche with Todd La Torre a lot and have seen them live (not to mention, just bought their latest album that came out a couple of weeks ago). Would definitely recommend.
Re Bruce - don't forget that he's also had cancer surgery (I believe on his tongue, can't remember the details and am too lazy to look them up) that had the potential to put an end to his singing career.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
The cancer issue was right as they completed Book of Souls and delayed the tour. Given some of the vocals on that record, it's amazing he was able to sing like that with cancer.
It's interesting how some bands can go on with a new singer and some don't.

I really enjoyed their acoustic set tribute to the Monkees.

As long as Sooty is there, I'm in.
Just got home and, yes, it's almost 2:30 in the morning–and, also, I've been up for 23+ hours now. (Welcome to my horrible sleeping habits of late.)
Wow, killer show.
I bought our tickets like a year ago and forgot where we were sitting–until we got to them: front row of the lower bowl, right above the tunnel from the floor. So, no one in front of us. Oh, and on the aisle. Score.
We met up with friends at the show and both reserved parking in the same lot so we got to actually tailgate (Cuban sandwiches and water) and just hang.
Oddly, lot not that full. Price at the gate for parking: $35. Paying for parking online the night before: $20.
I guess we can now discuss the set list since this was the last stop on the tour.
Interesting to start with the first three songs from the new album. Was that just to "get them done" and get to more core stuff? On a lot of tours, they have come out of the gate hard–Aces High, etc.–so this one kind of built up until they got to Revelations.
They've done Blood Brothers recently as well, right? I still think Brave New World is an underappreciated album. (Also, how about a tour that's Brave New World and newer? Basically it would cover the band's current/modern era.)
From there, lots of expected standards and a very strong close with Aces High. (Yes, I had the poster hanging in my dorm.)
Heading straight for them I press down my guns....
