Alright, I've had it. I think I need to put an Ad Blocker on this recent laptop (8GB Ram so relatively quick.)
This morning I have been trying to use autotrader.com and the site is nearly useless given the huge amount of ads that have to load. I never go to that site any more but a family friend asked for some car buying advice and I'm trying to help but boy is the experience painful.
So back to the question of Ad Blocker. I use Chrome Browser exclusively. Does anyone have a recommendation to share of an Ad Blocker extension?
Lenovo Think Pad (PC) running Win10 Pro
Thanks.
With firefox, Ad Block Plus works great. Dunno about chrome.
I run ad block pro, and it does a great job blocking 90% of ads. Also has the ability to show them on specific sites, so testing your own site or supporting specific sites is just a click away.
I've been running Adblock pro as well. But, sites (CBS cough, cough) are starting to recognize ad blockers and prevent content.
A good HOSTS file works well in this case.
This is the highest rated on Chrome: https://getadblock.com/
I loaded it.
One page of Autotrader resulted in 24 ads according to the counter placed on my tool bar!
F-you Autotrader!
I used to use Ad Block Plus but found it hogging tons of memory. (Firefox would bog down and get into the 2gb+ range of memory use despite not having a lot of tabs open.) I switched to Microblock Origin (stylized as uBlock Origin) and it's way better. It's faster and has a better "block element" interface. I haven't looked back, and highly recommend it.
Available on Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
And on Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en

Well now, that's interesting. Been running Ad Block Plus blithly and rather happily, but have noticed memory issues here and there, as well (just put 2 + 2 together) when opening several junky pages, things bog and all but freeze for a bit. Hmmm.
Unless a site is over clogged with ads, I don't mind them. Without the ads, the site wouldn't have the funding to exist--- so I tolerate them, and even check them out occasionally. There comes a point where too much is too much though----ie Autotrader.
Hopefully you guys don't block the ads on our site---- as they are a big reason we are able to offer this forum--- and publish our magazines. They also give you an idea of which companies value your business--- and our scene.
If you enjoy this website / forum, but don't subscribe to GRM or CMS, and never look at any of the advertising----- consider it. We can't survive on good intentions alone.

A custom hosts file is probably the easiest to deploy and least likely to have licensing concerns. This one was already linked above and is pretty fantastic. If you add the entries to your master image, you don't even need to install anything on your computers! The catch: you can't disable it on the fly.
I'm a fan of Ghostery for web browsers. It's a good independent ad blocker that also handles scripts and beacons.

You'll be happy to know that your ads go through with Ghostery. It helps that you aren't spewing crap or using any of the main ad platforms.
In reply to Joe Gearin:
What I installed give me the option for: Don't run AdBlock on this domain
Your ads are now coming through which i'll admit I have never found offensive and now I know again that Konis are 20% off until Sept 5th!
Thanks guys! We try to be sure our ads are focused, and non-offensive. We also want to be sure that those who value our readers enough to spend money with us, are getting good results!
Whenever you speak with a vendor--- let them know you are a GRM or CMS reader. It really helps!
I have GRM whitelisted in AdBlock and Ghostery. GRM ads are not that obtrusive and much more relevant than what I see on other sites. Those seizure-inducing "YOU'VE WON!! CLICK HERE!!!1!!1" banner ads and ones that auto-play sounds are the worst.

Wired does that to me now. I liked that website, but I don't really want to fiddle with my plugins in such a way that I can still view it with reduced or no ads.
uBlock Origin unfortunately makes Facebook unusable. It gets rid of all the posting boxes, but not all the spurious content that Adblock+ gets rid off.
FB has recently changed their methods and ads still appear in column for AdBlock+, but a new version is on the way to prevent that.
FB is one of those sites that will cause your computer to bog due to the number of ads. Ghostery helps in the tracking dept.
No problems here with FB using uBlock and NoScript on FF.

Downloaded Ublock last night and don't see any problems with FB. Using Chrome as my browser.
What it did do is make it possible for me to use a model specific site that I had given up on because the ads would lock up my browser. Even when I changed from IE to Chrome after viewing 2-3 pages the ads loading would lock it up.
