One of my favorite days of the year is upon us today, the day, ok weekend, I get the chainsaw out to clean up around the yard.

It was a little pricey getting started, because after 30 years, the time has come for new chains and a new bar. Putting it's 30 year cost of ownership/maintenance price at $349. Damn I love my old Stihl.

I'm in a break right now, but I'll try to pay some pictures up later today or tomorrow.

Speaking of, tomorrow, my special guest will be a 1960s Clinton with a 20 inch bar. They should be able to hear us cutting from the highway.

In reply to RevRico:

Sounds very interesting. Looking forward to pics.

(I get my fix with a cheesy electric model from HF, upgraded with an aggressive chain. Surprising what it'll do, and no ear protection required).

Yea, it was time for new chains. Both of my old ones look like the one in my hand. Nothing left to sharpen.

Looks so pretty with that new bar. If I bothered really cleaning it, it would still look new.

Now as usual, I forgot to take before pictures. But in addition to the obvious green stuff, there are 4 or 5 more poplar trees ontop of that pile than there were before I started. And there will be much more added to that pile tomorrow. In the interest of transparency, that pile hasn't been lit on fire in probably 8 years, and has been gathering E36 M3 since forever.

For those interested, planning on lighting that massive pile for my daughters bday party May 28, as usual, GRM is invited.

If you're not in a rush getting home, feel free to stop by. I'm about 30 minutes from new stanton and irwin turnpike exits.

I know you're not big on beef, but I could have some pork or lamb ready in the smoker.

Love my Stihl!! My dad bought it for xmas present many years ago when I lived in town. Somehow he knew I would need it a few years later when I moved to the country.

It's an 024AV wood boss. I love it, no complaints at all.

It finally quit starting before I moved to California and it wasn't getting used anyway so it sat. A new fuel line and cleaning of the carburetor last year for the first time in its entire life, and it's been amazing. We always left fuel in it, sometimes for years, and for the better part of 10 years the bar lube cap was to destroyed to open, so it didn't get any for a long time. We haven't babied it, is what I'm getting at, but it still starts every time.

My Stihl died a couple years ago and I bought a big Poulan piece of crap at the depot.

Haven't heard Clinton mentioned in at least 20 years. My first race car had a direct drive Clinton engine.

The clinton came to visit today. Here it is in all it's noisy goodness.

Makes mine look small by comparison

Now I took a picture of the magnolia tree before we started, but it's not on my phone now. So here's the aftermath at lunch time.

And the extension of the burn pile. Until I chop it up and throw it on tomorrow.

The big goal today was to get the magnolia tree down. We got it down, and most of it hauled to the burn pile. Lots of little stuff left for the baby to play with, because she loves helping pick up sticks.

But all in all, successful day on this front.

It drinks 16:1 mix, weighs almost 30lbs, smokes, screams, and is purpose built to destroy. It's one of my all time favorite toys.

At one point there was talk about turning it into a barstool racer. Maybe someday I'll be able to use that motor to power the wagon.

I'm going to look into pulling the audio from the video to make it my ring tone.
