It’s chilly

It's been a while since I remember temps this cold in the Metro Detroit area.  

-5F in Dayton OH.  The GR started up fairly normal, yesterday the 6yr old battery in the Crosstrek didn't sound happy.  I see that coming with the next service in a month or so.

Yeah, that's cold. I don't suppose I'm going to get any sympathy for our "dangerous cold weather" down here?  

Supposed to warm up a bit today, but yeah. It's bitter outside. Good for the ice fisherman, I guess.

Laughing that -2F in Cincy seems tropical vs others.  My buddies in Pensacola are enjoing their first ever snow with their kids which is fun, despite having no elevation to sledride on.

Road in front of my house is black ice. Second time I'm snowed in here in the Atlanta area, in the space of two weeks.

It was -12°F yesterday morning, -32°F with the windchill.  Big heatwave today, we're supposed to hit 25°F and get an inch or two of snow.

-11 Freedom Degrees in Pittsburgh this morning.  Instant nostrile freeze.

That's right about where we were yesterday too. Heat wave today as we will be above freezing and in the 40s next week. 

Flew from 80 yesterday to -3 this morning.  Went the wrong direction.

If you're in an area that isn't typically as cold and are experiencing single-digit temps, have fun with a little experiment. Leave a sealed bottle of water in the car or outside overnight. In the morning, confirm that it's still liquid and give it a shake. If the temps are low enough, you should experience an instant freeze - "supercooled water." It's a fun one to show your kids if they're not used to the cold. 

It's so cold in central Florida I almost had to wear a windbreaker.  Almost.

While I fully appreciate living away from people in general, why the hell would anyone voluntarily live somewhere that gets that cold? 

I ask the same thing of people from Minnesota fairly regularly as well.

Single digits here in DE for the second day in a row, but at least there isn't a negative sign involved.

We went for a walk yesterday.

On a positive note, since we renovated our bathrooms, I'll be able to take showers when it's this cold.

Here's the thing about that- if you live in a place like central or south Florida, you don't expect it to cool down, right?  So there are people who don't have a terribly good heater, or may not even have one.  And it always feels colder inside than out at the same temp, I think it's because you are getting radiant "heat" from the walls.

So 60 can be incredibly miserable if you have no plans on getting heat.  I talked with family in Puerto Rico and how miserable they are when it gets to 65- no windows, no heat, not much heavy clothing, etc. 

We can make fun of 60 being cold, but it surely can be freaking miserable.

I dunno man. Somehow 40-degrees in Florida is colder than anywhere I've ever been. I took the garbage out last night and it was like 41 and raining and I may as well have been wrestling a polar bear. I've been to the Matterhorn and it wasn't this cold. Our humidity just makes it knife right into your bones.

I'd rather deal with cold than heat. You can always put on more clothes, but there's a limit to how many you can take off :)

RevRico and Keith, I feel the same as both of you. Saskatoon and Las Vegas are both places that are like "humans what the berkeley are you doing here? Get out!" And I intend to listen. 
 

-6f here this morning and appropriate clothing made it not that bad. Of course I'm not hanging out in it!

It's 17* here, but this is south Alabama.  I haven't seen snow here in 20 years. We don't have plows, or salt trucks here, and drivers have ZERO skill or experience driving in snow.

We are totally stranded. 

Roads are completely frozen over, and the roads in the area have been declared 100% impassable.

It's a crime to leave the house! 😳😳

My place in Florida is also snowed in.

We have an extreme cold weather alert on and everybody's freaking out like it's the end of the world. It's currently -18C/0F. This is normal for most of the rest of the country, stop your whining.  This winter's been so mild, we got our first snow yesterday, and I can still see the grass

It snowed at my parent's house on Jekyll Island, Ga. Which is just borderline end times weird in my opinion.

Sitting at 17 degree here in Atlanta. On the plus side I've gone over the house like a mad man hunting/blocking drafts. Plastic grocery bags make great seals for window cracks in a pinch.

First one was our town this morning, but here at the house it was -11*. The second picture is from the local news stations weather map. We have this town called Lopez which is some sort of anomaly and SO MUCH colder than the surrounding areas. That's -22* without any wind chill factor. Now, I'm born and raised in northeast PA but heading toward 60 years old later this year, I'm getting a bit "softer" I guess. In my youth thru my early 40's, I was a hard-core skier being on the slopes 60-90 days every season. Now, I dress in even more layers than I used to wear skiing just to take the dog out to play in the snow. If she would only consider slowing down a bit at work, I would sell our place and gladly relocate to somewhere warmer. I do love living where we do, always enjoy the 4 seasons here in the northeast and when they change, but for a few months out of the year it's getting a little tiring.
