yeah, I think though the Japanese are the craziest with it it, obviously but the Aussie's also are into it hardcore. I have seen a german event and your right, those guys can drift so clean

As if drifting is new. Americans have been drifting AND racing for going on 100 years now. Just that nobody seems to appreciate dirt track racing.
that's actually one of the things that got me into drifting was watching sprint cars. The difference is that a dirt oval is different than a coned up lot or at a paved speedway and that sideways is the only way fast around a dirt oval, there's no choice haha
also don't forget rally in the 60's and 70's
It's sad how someone inevitably has to chime in with the "Yeah, but it's not racing." No E36 M3, Capernicus. If you can't see the fun in drifting, please pull the stick out of your ass and beat yourself to death with it. I've done a lot of different kinds of racing. Drifting a gazillion pound supercharged Sequoia a few months ago was probably the most fun I've ever had in a car that didn't have a bench seat. Doubt that I'd ever get into the sport proper, but whatever.
Cool video. Good message.

A lot of people would say the same about autocrossing. "You spent how much on tires this season for a total of about an hour and a half worth of seat time, and if you're lucky, a set of tires and a purple jacket? Good investment."

and same for the other post. Thanks for saying what exactly I wanted to

It's much sadder when somebody actually thinks it is racing.
"It's not racing!"
Meh. Who cares? It's not my thing, but it's guys having fun with cars. Knock yourself out.

No kidding. Man. The time and money I have tied up in that silly Celica is nuts. Makes no sense at all. But it sure is fun!

In the video, they directly present it as their alternative to professional racing(Formula 1, V8 Supercars, and something else are mentioned).
The "it's not racing" comments were actually warranted in this case.
I still think drifting would have more traction with groups like this if it didn't have the baggage of the "culture" that goes along with it.

It's like those kids and their, their, Rock And Roll music. Why in my day...

It's definitely not an age thing.
uhhhh I know of a few guys over 30 that drift at these events and hang with the guys in the video and around the youngins. At the E Town event 2 years ago there was a 41 year old guy drifting his 240 and no, it wasn't his sons. He owned 11 240's ranging from road coarse, auto x and drift. He loves drifting and even stayed for the night show and party.....with the "culture"
Nice video. I never had a problem with drifting, sure it's not racing but so what? I think the aerobatics analogy is a good one. It's just too bad about the flatbiller/brotato/street racer culture that surrounds it, seems to be bigger with the fans than the competitors...
I think autocrossing is fun, but I won't do it because I don't want to be associated with 'the culture' of old dorks in floppy hats. Makes sense, right?
You guys are berkeleying ridiculous.

LOL
remember, it's FUN. What's wrong with supporting the youth in drifting. Like Nate said, it's better than watching tv and keeps them away from drugs and bad E36 M3
Zomby Woof wrote: I don't autocross because it's not racing either
I don't autocross because 240 seconds of seat time in exchange for standing around for 8 hours sucks.
As for drifting, it's car folks doing car stuff. I'm cool with that.
I don't autocross because that E36 M3 is in the Ten Commandments, right next to "Marriage is buhtwixt a man uhn uh woman" and "driftin taint racin!" Look it up brah.
Repent, sinners.

Actually, yes, it does. I have to hang out with enough old fogey rallyists ( ;P ) at events as it is. Whenever anybody under the age of 30 shows up, it's like "wow, someone who can remotely relate to my generation".
