kia truck linky
I had heard a while back that Kia was thinking of introducing a pickup...looks like it should be a 2011 model, unibody design similar to a ridgeline I guess...even ran into some talk of a possible front wheel drive option. That could really be cool! I know there has been talk about vw's and dodges of the past lately...so what do you think, will it be a hit?
I like the idea!
its not a real truck..
in before the flame war then lock..!!!!
Gotta get in on that hot selling niche market the Ridgeline has a monopoly on! Wait...
Kia may be able to do it, though. The used minitruck (Nissan hardbody, Mitsu Mighty Max, old Tacoma) options are drying up, and I think there'd be small contractors and the like just begging to have them again. Honda went about it the wrong way, I think, and the Ridgeline is much, much too ugly.
Judging by the comments, that article is nearly 2.5 years old.
Well, 2 things about this article:
the "newest" comments are over 2 years old....
according to the article, the "current" Sorento is body on frame. No, the CURRENT Sorento (the 2010 model), is now a "unibody" design.
While I might be interested in a product LIKE this, it would have to come from someone besides Kia. Honda "seems" to be standing behind the Ridgeline, in spite of low sales numbers, but I can't imagine Kia hanging on with a product that has lower sales potential. Besides, many folks are predicting the end of Kia, ala Mercury, in a few years.
Ford brought us the Transit Connect, it would be nice if they saw fit to bring the U.S. one of it's overseas versions of the Ranger. A Ranger that had a turbo-diesel and/or four "regular" doors on the supercab.

Stoopid unibody trux
To be clear, those early 1960s Ford pickups weren't unibody in the modern sense....the cab and bed were joined together as one assembly, but they did have a conventional frame underneath.
Then may I add the Kia Soulster Concept?
Again, the articles ancient history, but the idea has surfaced in a few concepts. This one, though, is just embarrassing.
I had one of these stupid unibody no, wait, body-on-frame, no, wait uni-cab-sub-bed-framed trucks once:
It was a Comanche Eliminator and the only thing that kept me from burning it to the ground was it's speed.
Lot's of people had great experiences with this vehicle platform but I had nothing but grief.
Goofy construction too. Unit body in the front with frame stubs out the back to mount the box.
