SWMBO wants to have a way to play music in the delivery room, when she's done with that I can use it to rock out in my garage. I'm enough of an audiophile to know good sound when I hear it but don't have time to go and listen to a bunch. Needs to work with an iPhone 6plus. Thanks in advance!

I LOVE my UE BOOM, but that's around $175-200. You can get a UE BOOM mini for $99 direct from Ultimate Ears. We got one for my sister-in-law and she likes it.

The standard one is a whole lotta sound from a little unit. Granted, I stream stuff off of my phone with it, so it's not like it's an all-tube pre-amp pushing 180g vinyl. It's good enough sound for "utility listening" and it's super convenient.

I have a question. I know Bluetooth is nice and everything, but do you need it? In the delivery room: if you walk out to get a cup of coffee or something, your phone will be in your pocket. The music will stop. So you leave the phone. Now what's the point? And if you're in the garage, do you keep your phone in your pocket? No you leave over there so you don't lay on it and break it. My point is don't waste money on 'fashionable' (read: expensive price tag and probably ho-hum quality) Bluetooth speaker. Get a decent bookshelf stereo system that can play CDs, radio, has auxiliary inputs, and still has Bluetooth.

I was also under the impression that Bluetooth has a limited amount of data it can handle and therefore it will degrade your audio file if you are listening to higher quality tracks. Not likely a problem if you want something to play Pandora on but worth bringing up for the topic. Also, this is information without a source and entirely possible that my memory is jank (as usual).

If I could have a plug in device that was far superior in sound quality for the same or less money that would be fine. I would prioritize sound quality over portability, but it might be nice to have a portable/ bluetooth one for times when I want to multitask with the phone or when a power source wasn't available.

I "think" most of the bluetooth boxes also have headphone jacks and sometimes (the iPhone specific ones) will have a spot on top to put the entire phone that also charges. That is all I got though. I have a tendency to build my own stereo equipment for nickels.

The appeal of the UE Boom for me is convenience. I can easily listen to content on my phone (or tablet) anywhere in my home. It gets moved around my house regularly.

When it's in the garage and I go in the house, I pause the content (podcast) or I don't listen to it (like streaming music).

I use it so much, it's well beyond the point of "novelty". It's much more "utility" for me.

Jbl clip. ~$50, sounds better than many $200 Bluetooth speakers.
