I have to move 2700 miles in a couple of weeks and I have no way to bring my 1995 Mustang GT with me. I have been looking at prices and they seem to be around $1400-$3000 to ship it. I'm fine with putting it on an open trailer or carrier. Do I have to be present when they come pick it up? What kind of paperwork needs to be with the car?
Just south east of Boise, Idaho to the little hamlet of Mountain Home.
Hey you will only be a couple hours from me! I come to Boise every now and then as well. I am over in eastern oregon in La Grande.
don't go to u ship, you'll get that jarrett guy from tv.
Does it drive? Plane ticket plus gas. I'd do that drive.

Thats funny because I was looking at uship. I don't need a fancy carrier, I just want the car to get there in one piece.

It does drive but I think one of the front brake hoses needs replaced. The last time I drove it, the passenger side front brake started dragging.
I'm driving from Tampa to Mountain Home in a 2 door JK Wrangler towing a teardrop camper. I probably won't want to drive for awhile afterwords haha. If I could get a decent price to ship the Mustang, I'd buy a cheap round trip airline ticket to fly down here and take care of it.

I used a shipping broker that a friend recommended to move my Miata from CT to southern CA. $1400, IIRC? Not cheap. Ended up being even more expensive, as someone (who had access to my car) stole my EZ-Pass toll tag during transit, and racked up some bills that I still need to fight EZ-Pass to get refunded.
Basically, I called the broker, told him what I wanted shipped, where, he gave me a number and a pickup date, I paid him his fee with a credit card. They called my buddy on the pickup date to schedule a time, they missed that estimate by a mile. Dually Enterprise rent-a-truck, 4-car tandem-axle open ramp trailer. Four or five days later, they called me to tell me they were an hour away. They missed THAT estimate by about 5 hours. Paid them in cash. Car looked like it had hit every single bug in the known universe, but was otherwise fine.
I'm not particularly thrilled with "Patricia's Car Hauler LLC, Irvington, NJ". The broker was an OK guy, but I think this was small potatoes for him and the company he set me up with was scraping the bottom of the barrel. Except for the stolen tag thing, this would have been an OK deal, a good funny story of two slightly-odd guys picking up cars at 2am...
It could have been a lot worse, I guess?
I could give you the name of my broker, but you might ask around for other ones first.
I actually meant that -I- would drive that for you.
Or GRM relay it. Not sure if we have done a car that distance yet.
Between shipping a car (Ohio to Texas) and driving a car (Pennsylvania to Texas) I'll take driving every time if possible. The kind of shippers you get for 'good deal' prices are a bit sketchy.
In my experience you need to be there, or have someone there when the car is loaded. You also need someone on the other end to pick it up.
Run the numbers on plane+gas+a couple of hotels and see how that compares to shipping. For a one way trip, shipping has always been more for me.
I agree - I've been trying to buy a new-to-me bike and ship it home but it looks like it's first ride is going to be 1300 miles because the flight is cheap and so are dive motels. Plus, any adventure that involves crossing 7 states on a bike bought sight-unseen can't be the wrong choice, can it?

I would highly recommend u-ship. I've used them many times. The bidding war thing helps a lot, as you get some good bids. Plus you can talk to the shipper before accepting the offer, so you can get a feel for them. I have yet to have a bad experience with them.

I ended up with a different bike... so I just sent a deposit last night at 10PM.
For the cost of shipping I can fly in and buy 2 nights in a cheap motel on the way home. Plus, I can take delivery in person, sooner than having it delivered. Still, I'm on the fence though - having it show up in a van is certainly easier on my time and basically a push on cost.
As soon as I iron out the title/payment and get a delivery estimate I'll make the call. If it's 30 days out - I'm flying to get it so there is some nice weather left to ride in.
