Learn me: getting snipped

I had it done by a local guy who had one day every two weeks set aside as snip day. It was all quick and painless and when he was done he said "there, now you are a new woman" and rushed off to the next one. He did my brother in law and managed not to remove the rubber band. He and his wife stopped half way home due to excruciating pain and discovered his balls looked like a pair of eggplants. They cut the band themselves and continued home. 

Ps. My cousins husband had it done after birth control failed and they had an unwanted fourth kid. But he failed to get tested afterward and now they have five kids. And what makes it extra funny is that he is a family doctor.

Main reason why is that my wife is starting to suffer from the current birth control. Side effects are worse the older we get. The more sex would be great, but thats NOT the reason. At all. I just want her as healthyas possible as long as possible. Shes my best friend. Hard to see her suffer from the side effects and knowing that there's a different option.

Overall, id doesn't sound nearly as bad as i thought it would be!

This was the same reason I had mine. Jen has enough health problems and the long term effects hormonally for her are well documented. I just wanted her sane (as sane as she can get anyway, she is married to me) and healthy. There is pain. It's not horrific. My hernia recoveries were about a 9 on my Bob's scale of pain, 1-10. This was a 5.5 imo. In all fairness stubbing my toe on the couch rates a 3.

Had it done over 30 years ago when I was 30. SWMBO is older and just had our 2nd and my 3rd kid. Not nearly as bad as horror stories say. I was military when I had mine in the military hospital and military doc. When he was giving the 1st numbing shot he told me it would feel like a pinch. Well, not exactly. I have a fairly high pain tolerance and I sat straight up reaching for him when he stabbed me with the needle. He calmly looked at me and said you don't want to do that. I stopped and agreed considering what he had the needle stuck into and by then the initial pain had receded. I was ready when he did the other side and knew what to expect and wasn't nearly as bad. Just wasn't expecting the jolt of the 1st shot. Drove myself home and then had to drive SWMBO around to shop, I stayed in my truck. Wasn't easy getting in/out of the K5 Blazer I had at the time for a day or two after. Had no affect in operation. Nowadays they can sometimes reverse it if situation changes later. Understand that is more involved process and sometimes doesn't work.

Had it done at 20. No kids.  Dr didn't even bat an eye. 

I had complications due to a pre existing hydrocele. It was probably one of the more painful things I have ever gone through and I almost lost my right hand in an industrial accident. 

I would do again in a heartbeat if needed. 

Frozen pearl onions, more mas and they stay colder, longer.

When he found out I am a stock broker he would not stop talking about things that were not public knowledge, on trials that he was involved with.  Of course, all information that I could not work with.

It was a distraction during the procedure. 

I appreciate the thread. I Seriously considered it when I was 30 and wife (at the time) said No Kids. 
Hey guess what - We both changed our minds and have a rad dude.

I'm keeping my options open until I'm 50. Nothing to do with pride, just that sometimes life throws you a curve.

While this would provide the intended results the side effects would be bad. But this is definately a DIY tool, and who doesn't like a new tool.

The first one was pretty easy, I talked to the dr the whole time.  The second one was a little worse.  A lot more swelling and pain the second time.

I figure it took my wife and me 5 years + fertility treatments to get pregnant the first time, so the odds were low. It's been 6 years and no more kids so I assume it worked. 

My experience was just like this except the numbing shots worked. It took less than 20min. I was 27 years old with one kid. Recovery was just sore nuts and maybe some swelling. Would def recommend doing it. Less painful than her giving birth again and saves ton of money lol

In my case, I had it shortly after our twins were born (#4 and 5)..  I had called to schedule it, and when I showed up, the doc went through the normal questions and then asked, "when do you want to do it?"

I told him I thought I was getting it done now!  He replied with "well, you might want to really consider it first." 

After I explained the twins thing, he said, "oh, give me 5 to prepare the room.". And that was that..

Interesting to hear all these experiences. I have wanted to do it for 10+ years now (37) and I have never wanted children. But haven't managed to get myself to the doctor to do it.

And for those who fear that they will change their mind, several in my family are adopted including my sister and i adopted my daughter the first minute it was legally doable.  Exwife was knocked up when we started dating, weird situation but definitely no regrets

Here is a brief recap of my experience:

I took the Valium before the procedure. This was the first time I ever had one, and I 100% understand why they are addictive, so I'll never have one again. It kind of took the edges off of everything, and put me into a real DILLIGAF kind of mood.

It takes a bit for locals to work on me. I advised them of this, and they gave a bit of extra time. I still felt things. When I say "felt things" I mean I felt the cut, vividly, and I kicked the Dr. in the face so hard I knocked him off of the stool. Since the edges were worn off of everything, and I really didn't give a berkeley, I felt he deserved it for cutting my junk, but self preservation took over (he was cutting near the bits) and I apologized. He still seemed a bit irritated with me, but I didn't really care. His problem, right?

The Dr. then ordered the staff to shot me up with enough local to numb me from my nipples to my knees and left me chilling with my bits hanging out for about 15 more minutes. Maybe 5. Or 30. It was chilly, but I didn't really care. Valium is pretty good like that.

The rest of the procedure went fine.

I will absolutely never take Valium again.

 

I jogged home from my vasectomy. No big deal.

No really I didn't jog home, but it was two days of taking it easy, and a couple of days at work where I just didn't move around as fast. I had it done on a Friday afternoon, and played hockey the following Friday.   A friend had it done, and didn't follow the whole take it easy for a few days edict. His nuts blew up to the size of grapefruit, and he was berkeleyed up for a couple of weeks, but he decided to landscape his yard a day after getting the procedure. Don't do that. Wait until football season if you like that sort of thing, and sit on the couch for a weekend watching the tube with ice on the old marbles.

No big deal here. I will suggest that you wait until divisional weekend if you are a football fan or March Madness for basketball. Something where you can crash in front of the TV to some good sports for 48 hours.

I will absolutely never take Valium again.

I take it for flying anxiety and its really great. My wife loves when I take it because I'm actually normal on the plane instead of being an anxious chatterbox who can't help but note every change in mechanical sound, vibration or pressure. 

That being said, I only take it when flying because its so hard to get. 

On another note: 

Those of your that had complication with the surgery and the Doc findin one of the tubes - did you sustain injuries or scarring down there earlier in life? 
A long time ago I had a Dr. check me out because I was feeling a tender lump in the scrote and he said "oh no worries that just feels like some scarring. As a long time cyclist and daredevil as a kid I took plenty of nut hits, soccer probably didn't help. 

Will this make getting a vasectomy more difficult? Should I make sure the Dr. knows about this prior to surgery?

Ive had similar nut damage, including a straight shot to the daddy bag with a frozen paintball round. 

Doctor today said it will take extra time and attention during the procedure, but nothing too serious.

In addition, my insurance SUCKS. 

As far as second thoughts - what options are there? Can you freeze your guys? Someone mentioned the ability to harvest without reversing the procedure? 

My wife's uncle had it done after having 2 kids in his 20's, got divorced, then met a woman who was 24 years his junior who wanted babies. He got it reversed and proceeded to have 3 more kids in his late 40's. It was a lot of pain and money, but he's a MD himself, so that helps.

I had a inguinal hernia repair on the side that the doctor had an issue with. The doctor didn't seem to think that was the source of the issue.

It probably wouldn't hurt to mention something like that though.

You guys suggesting Duster watch sports must not frequent this forum much.  He spends more time on sound deadening and old neons than i do at my job!

Easy peasy. 32, no kids. Doc was hesitant, but did it. The oddest part was smelling the laser scalpel do its thing. I made it through recovery with nothing more than Tylenol. My toothache on Sunday was by far the worst part of that weekend.

Yeah, that's weird. I cracked up. Laughed my ass off. Doc didn't think it was nearly as funny as I did. 

Today is the day. 

I must admit that i am nervous.
