No advice, but I want to follow this thread, as I may try to Airbnb whatever you end up building, instead of my usual stay at the High Desert motel, or some chain hotel in 29 Palms.
My farm has space for you to stay
let me know next time you are in town :)
and if I end up building yurts/tiny homes whatever - ANY GRM member stays for FREE!
As someone that drives through that part of California often, this sounds awesome. But I'm still gonna pay you. Lol
In reply to yupididit :
I know HOWyou will pay me! Same as Javelin. He will give me ride in vette. You will give me ride in XJR
i domt charge my family. GRM is my extended family. No GRM members get charged . If you pay , you can't stay
you can help package dates or pick up goat poop
or you can teach me to grow marijuana or make meth
In reply to mr2s2000elise :
Lol the xjr will be gone. How about a LS XJS?
In reply to mr2s2000elise :
I grew up on a chicken and corn farm. I can shovel dates and harvest goat poop. (maybe the other way around)
If I'm ever back in your neck of the woods... I expect your finest goat poop.
Edit: P.S. I don't know how to make meth, and I have the brownest thumb. If you ask me how to grow weed, just know that you're asking a guy who can kill a philodendron in 2 months.
mr2s2000elise - I sent you an email to your gmail address. Hope you get it.
My wife and I want to move somwhere we can have goats, because we want more Great Pyrenees.

LOL
come on over. Only 47 chickens as of Friday. 116 doves though.
Scheduled a phone convo with groovy yurt today
and colorado yurt tmrw
to better see what my fit is and overall cost will be

This may be a dumb idea, but I wonder if anyone makes small modular houses/cabins with differing exterior themes? If so, that could be the novelty that gets some attention on Airbnb. Bonus if they can still be structurally/mechanically the same.
Yes - I've seen numerous "themed" tiny homes, from the cute to the whimsical to the absolutely bizarre (one built to resemble a yellow submarine - yes, that yellow submarine). The latter is specifically set up to be a rental.

Just sent again. Maybe it's going to spam? If you don't see it there, would you contact me through the forum contact feature? I started there but it refuses to play nicely with Yahoo email addresses. :(

Themed rental spaces are huge on AirBnB.
My daughter advised me to do one. I asked "What theme?" She said it didn't matter- favorite football team, Alaskan dogsledding, Batman... makes no difference.
She manages a condo rental in ATL that is entirely pink. Walls, ceilings, furniture, carpets. Glitter and pink everywhere. It looks like My Little Pony threw up on everything. But she keeps it rented, and earns nearly $7K a month on the place. Astounding.
If you have the landscape for it and can make the engineering work, a "Hobbit Hole" AirBnB could probably stay continuously rented for years.
In reply to Ian F (Forum Supporter) :
That's a great idea. And it works well with Yurts.

Probably not budget friendly, but aircraft themed might be one of the more extreme:
Aero-glamping
But on a more practical note, I wonder if a Quonset hut style steel building with themed interior might work? Upfront cost would be higher, but I wonder if there might be savings on maintenance and useful life? Maybe even add a living/green roof to keep heating and cooling costs lower while appealing to the environmentally conscious latte drinkers.

Now I want to rent a replica Batcave for a weekend. That sounds AWESOME.
In reply to mr2s2000elise :
That dome is amazing.
What is the price point?
In reply to SVreX (Forum Supporter) :
Funny you should ask. Here's a video discussing the costs to set up a dome like that:
Looks like $3,000 for the basic dome + many thousands more to finish it.
In reply to Don49 (Forum Supporter) :
So, a very cool structure for many tens of thousands of dollars less than boring conventional construction.

I like the idea , but I wonder how long they last out in the weather ,
snow is some parts of the country and wind and excess heat in other parts,
In reply to californiamilleghia :
Yep.
Company's website looks very promising (including heat, wind, and better snow ratings than conventional construction)
