12mm head on an M8 is JIS . The rest of the world uses 13. Italians, German, US. Actually the Italians used 14mm heads up until 1965 or so. 

My 13mm sockets and wrenches are road worn and weary while my 12mm stuff looks like new. I do special order JIS nuts for the M8 studs that hold Weber carbs down since the larger wrenches have a tough time fitting in that tight space
