A lot of bands/acts/performers have short, concise names, right? Devo, Slayer, Soundgarden, ABBA.

Some slip an article in there: The Beatles, The Iron Maidens, Los Lobos.

Or you just get a person's name.

What about those bands that aren't afraid to buy a vowel or two?

Man or Astro-Man?, Queens of the Stone Age, God Is an Astronaut, A Place to Bury Strangers, She Makes War, They Might Be Giants, Bullet for My Valentine, A Few Kids With Bicycles, Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Mothers of Invention and, of course, The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die.

I don't remember their music but this band name will never leave my mind

IIRC, "When people were shorter and lived near the water" were on the Shimmy disc label so the music will no doubt be odd.

Pretty much any "front man and the backup band" name tickles my fancy. I'm pretty sure I once performed in King Clef and the Semitones, and Fix-It Bob and the Toolkit beat Alanis Morrisette in one of our high school talent shows.

An excellent example, pretty much the standard to which we all strive. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble is a more boring but longer and more successful example.

Jefferson Starship was known as the Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra for a bit which, while not long in character count, implies an extremely thorough audition process.
