When I was a kid my grand parents kept a box of toys around that used to belong to my uncles. Included in that was a long plastic or vinyl car track. It was great for making a HotWheels rollercoaster on the stairs.

It was orange, about five or six inches wide and at least twelve feet long, maybe longer. It was two lanes with a slightly raised center divider and similarly raised sides. The raised parts were painted white so that it looked like a road with painted shoulder and center stripes. It was soft and flexible, & could be rolled up when not in use.

My guess is that it was from the late sixties or early seventies.

Is anyone here familiar with this? What is its name and was it from a mainstream toy company?

Kind of sounds like Hot Wheels track, although I don't remember that configured with two lanes. There's tons of the regular track on eBay (just search on 'hot wheels track') and maybe you'll find some of the two lane stuff.

That would be Aurora Speedlines. They had one called the stunt and daredevil set. Had a loop de loop and a bridge.

I actually had one of those, and some of the cars. The cars were supposed to compete with Matchbox & Hot Wheels, they were actually Aurora Thunderjet bodies screwed onto a flat plate with axles & tires. IIRC, the Speedlines were often "chrome" plated..they looked pretty sweet on a T-jet chassis back then.
