Since we launched our aged spirits a few months ago, we entered everything in the U.S. Open Whiskey and Spirits Championship. Medals just got announced today.
Look for "Endeavor Brewing and Spirits": https://usopenwhiskey.com/2022-us-open-whiskey-medal-winners/
Six of our Eight spirits won awards:
- Bourbon - Bronze
- Malt Whisky - Silver
- Dry Gin - Bronze
- Cask Gin - Gold
- White Rum - Silver
- Cask Rum - Silver
We tied for third as "Best Spirits Distillery". Only two that didn't medal are our Vodka and Botanical Gin. I'm fine with that.
Woo!
Dude! That's awesome. I'll have to check them out sometime; with summer around the corner it's almost gin and tonic weather.
Congratulations!
And there's some weirdness. It looks like our Cask Rum may have been judged in the wrong category against the Spiced Rums, and STILL won a silver. It's a nice award either way. I just find it amusing and arguably more impressive if it beat a bunch of spiced rums without being spiced.
(It's finished with French Oak and Brazillian Amburana wood, which lend natural vanilla and spice cookie notes respectively. So not crazy, but amusing.)
Massive congratulations! I'm wishing (again) I was near enough to you to grab a few of these and enjoy something capable of winning awards for features I don't know enough to recognize lol.

well said! i'm in the same consumer category. here's my spirit sophistication checklist:
- Will it get me drunk?
- Does it burn?

I think this is likely because spiced rum is the devil.

You're not wrong.
I do want to experiment with some spiced rums. But doing it by actually infusing whole spices, vanilla, and dried fruits, rather than by adding flavorings and sugar.
I just talked to the organizer to get it sorted out... and we're still not sure what happened. We know it earned silver. We're not sure which category it went through final judging in, or if it was judged in BOTH categories.

Thanks. Gin and tonic is my go to. Our cask gin does pretty interesting things with tonic.
I personally think our Rums are our best products. Our Cask Rum with ginger beer is freaking killer.
For classic cocktails, gonna feature our Cask Gin in the Perfectest Martini on our next cocktail menu: 2oz cask gin, 1oz dry vermouth, 1oz sweet vermouth, dash of lavender bitters (can sub orange, lime, grapefruit, or Peychaud's at home).
Nice work! Samples should be sent to verify the goodness
From the linked article, seemss Cask was not in the Spiced results.
Barrel Aged Gin
Gold – Endeavor Cask Gin – Endeavor Brewing and Spirits – Ohio
Silver – Barrel Finished Gin – Thornapple Artisan Spirits – Michigan
Bronze – Gin – Grand Traverse Distillery – Michigan
Rum Spiced
Gold – Battleship 57 Spiced Rum – Gamblers Bay Distillery – Florida
Silver – Spiced Rum – Thornapple Artisan Spirits – Michigan
Bronze – Spiced Rum – Stillwrights – Ohio
G&T is my go-to also. Tonic contains quinine and so far it has been effective in keeping the Malaria away!
A close second is Rum & Ginger Beer if available. Don't forget the lime...it keeps scurvy away!

It was originally placed in the "Spiced" category. I e-mailed the organizer and he changed it.
Just got off the phone with him... and he has to go through and talk to his stewards and judges to find out what *actually* happened.

This is the way.

Yeah. I'll totally run a tour and tasting if people want to do a group event.
Congratulations! I'll have to go find out if I can get your stuff here in PDX.
Gin and tonics and Mai Tais (the proper ones that are mostly rum with a bit of orgeat and lime juice, not the sugary mixer version) are my go-to warm weather drinks.
And it should be done snowing, right?
Right?
dang, 3 hr 15 min from home. a little too far for day-drinking. :-(
That's awesome. Congrats! Next time I'm in Cleveland with the Fam, I'll have to make an end run to Columbus to test some of these out.
We need to figure out a sampler pack with custom GRM inspired labels...

How about next Sunday, May 1st? I'll be hanging out playing D&D with friends in the morning and can do a tasting after that, probably around 2pm. I'll be at the brewery doing some other tours on the 30th, which I'm not sure if that would be good or bad for fitting in a tasting in between.
In reply to Beer Baron :
Unfortunately, gotta be in Lewis Center for a 3pm funeral on May 1. The 30th may be better.

Let me figure out how we're handling the tours that day, and I'll let folks know what time would work best.

Anyone want to mail me some ... active yeast samples and salsa from Ohio? I want to have some, but unfortunately Florida is far from Ohio, and of all the travels, Ohio isn't super high on my or swmbos list, and I'm pretty sure a hard sell of I wanna drive 20 hours and buy a bunch of liquor is out.
