VH-1 classic aired a pair of recorded concerts (edited for DVD format) tonight and I watched both
Foo Fighters
And
Rage against the machine
Both of whom I saw perform live several times, both at 9:30 Club and at stadium shows on their own and as part of multiact festivals. Seeing them aired on the "classic" channel really hit hard.

Ouch! Didn't need to hear that man. berkeley I'm getting old...
I've got Alice in chains playing right now.
Meanwhile older members of the forum are looking at us thinking damn thirtysomething kids thinking their old...
Good grief, they did break out that long ago. It sure doesn't seem like it!
It seems like someone secretly changed the definition of "classic" and I missed the memo.
Iron Maiden was 10 years new when I first saw them. 31 years ago. berkeley.
To add color to that... The Stones were only at it 25 years when I saw them a year later. berkeley.

Black Sabbath's first album, "Black Sabbath", came out 46 years ago this week. FORTY SIX YEARS.

ftfy....
I, too, was listening to some AIC a few hours ago, along with some Courtney Barnett, Maudlin Strangers and Black Keys. Good stuff has no age limit whether it's tunes or folks.
Some years past I saw some guys from Detroit play warm-up for Chuck Berry. The band was fronted by some crazy azz guitar player named Nugent. Wonder what happened with him...
Remember when Fleetwood Mac was good? Like before B'ham and the coke princess reached puberty? They did a great job getting us more in the mood for Deep Purple on the Machine Head tour.
Good stuff and a solid beginning for the (now constant) ringing in my ears.
They've been airing that Foo Fighters concert from time to time since 2010 or so..
Hope that makes you feel even older..
But, honestly, VH1 Classic is where Viacom puts most of their actual musical content these days so it's not like they are specifically catering to old people..
I'm watching STP right now and next is RATM...
The local classic rock radio station has STP, AIC, Nirvana, and the Foo Fighters in regular rotation. I remember they didn't play the Beatles until George Harrison died. I like drinking a light American beer, and wrenching to the sounds of my youth. I'm a much better middle aged fella than I was a 20 something grunge wanna be.

The first time I heard my favorite alternative station (KROQ) play Garbage during the Flashback Lunch instead of in the regular rotation made me feel profoundly old.
In reply to Will:
did you pour your misery down on someone/thing?
I turned 21 for the second time this past week.
The first heavy metal album I bought was by Iron Maiden. Being on a newfound concert kick this year I considered going to see them live for the first time. At almost $80 for the cheap tickets I don't think I will.
I used to pay close attention to the music they played in grocery stores and such to see if I was being marketed to. I stopped paying attention after I heard the Smiths and the Cure during the same trip.

I just saw the Foo a few months ago. One of the best shows I'd seen.
In reply to daeman:
I saw Alice in Chains a year or two back. They were headlining a 20 band show. They were one of the worst band I'd ever seen. I'd pay not to have to watch them.
I really enjoy the "classics". A while back the one of the classic hits stations started playing 90's alternative and I was real excited. Even complimented the program manager. Then they shut them down last year.
In reply to N Sperlo:
Yes, Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam have consistently put on the best shows of acts that I've seen at least 4 times. Lots of other excellent ones, but they both bring huge amounts of energy to the audience at times, and bring stirring emotion and reflection during other times. It's a remarkable range to experience within a 2 hour window.
I feel it too. The "oldies" station they play over the PA at work which has been all 70's and 80's for the last I don't know how many years has within the last couple weeks started including some 90's into the mix.

I was in a car with a coworker yesterday and Quiet Riot "Cum on Feel the Noise" came on. I mused how I remembered when the song was new.
It was before he was born...
Oh, you children are so silly. I think I'll go find my Meatloaf 8-track now.
I think I have worked most of the shows you guys are talking about... except for Black Sabbath. I will be 46 this year, so I was not quite there as a stage hand yet
Damn it! Nirvana is NOT classic rock.

Just saw Offspring on Guitar Center Sessions .... Man, they still sound great, but look old. I am same age as those guys, so I guess I also look old despite never sounding great. Crap.
I've heard Glycerine and Interstate Love Song on the "Classic Rock" station here. Neither Bush nor STP are old enough to be classic... what I'm saying is I can't be that old yet.
I saw Foo Fighters in Memphis in October, even with one foot Dave was an awesome entertainer. I saw them way back in the day when they were opening for The Chili Peppers Californication tour. I remember more of the Foo Fighters' performance than the Chili Peppers. Glad I got to see them again before their hiatus.

I saw AIC open for Van Hagar while I was in college. Facelift was just released. AIC put on a better show than VH, but the crowd wasn't into it and was booing. At the end of their set Layne Staley said "berkeley you Philadelphia" and threw down the mic. I wish I could have seen them when they were headlining their own tour.

Please don't ever call my shop and complement me.
I'm wondering how long it will be before the "Where are they now?" series does an episode on "MTV actually playing music videos."
