If there is no one on duty - invade the park!

You mean Occupy The Park? Maybe some Tea partiers would come along for the LOLZ. Both sides are angry...why not?

Yes they are actually. Knowing someone who works for the Federal Parks, he told me pretty much the only people working (essential personnel) are the park police, to secure the parks.

It is a bit strange how the government is "shut down" and has no money and yet there are still some working (e.g. Post Office, Military).

Congress actually passed a stand-alone funding bill for the US Military on Monday, that's why they are getting paid. The Post Office (sort-of) operates off of it's own revenue (postage), just like Amtrak.

Amtrak has revenue?

A bunch of paper-pushers missing their monthly bills doesn't scare anybody. A standing army does.

I suspect the real reason they are getting paid is so they don't spend their idle time pondering a Coup d'état.

I have great empathy for soldiers. While their on base commisaries are closed, Obama's golf course is still open.

At a free bike - walking path in DC, all the handles were removed from the fountains.

Much like shutting down White House tours during spring break, lets cause the most pain to the people and blame someone else.

On cue, here come the FAUX news pundits.

Did Obama sign an executive order to keep "his" golf course open? You would think with a stupid remark like that. Nope, it's because it's funded by user's fees, not the Federal gov't. So why would this remark be even made? Because stupid. Sure makes a damning headline though doesn't it?

Oh noes! Little Johnny can't tour the White House! That's my constitutional right! Oh the humanity!

Meanwhile we take away food stamps from starving children and out of work parents. But that's ok because they are poor or are milking the system. They get what they deserve!

Oops. This looks like this going to go down a bad road here!

Lets just say, this is another example of providing entirely factual information, without complete context.

That is sadly a very common thing to do in the modern "news" world.

I am highly amused, and I'd be quite a bit concerned too if I had anything to lose.

Can't wait to see what happens with the debt ceiling which will cause global economic collapse if you hit it. There will be lulz!

In reality, about 75% of the government operations are still on going -- including the food stamp program.

I agree that fear-mongering on either side is bad. The fact that the president's favorite golf course is still open, but I can't go to the commissary doesn't bother me (yes, I am active duty military).

What really chaps me is that they would all rather point the finger at someone else than fix the problem (something about the old playground adage of having four fingers pointing right back at you).

I, for one, am seriously considering getting involved as soon as I am out of the Army (can't really participate -- outside of voting -- when you wear the uniform). I have spent my entire "adult" life defending the Constitution with my ability to inflict force upon those who would try to injure it. Now, I believe, is the time to wage war on the battlefield of ideas and ideals.

Hmmmmm........

the one cure to our form of government was outlawed shortly after our government was formed.....

we need to re-legalize the duel.

It's amazing how many people like to refer to "our founding fathers" while knowing little about them. Think for a moment how much more civil you had to be... for fear of losing your life.....

Dueling required for all members of congress.... at least we'd see how determined anyone would be... willing to die for your beliefs.

I say they use a matched pair of these:

W54 "Davy Crockett"

Each side gets one shot, but they all have to stand 50 paces apart. They can flip a coin to see who goes first (like it would matter).
