The interesting thing is nothing actually changed. The words mean the same thing, people just decided they didn't like them. As of 2013, we have officially gone from Mental Retardation or Retarded Development to Intellectual Disability. The Social Security Administration went through and rewrote all their paperwork and forms to change it. The words all describe the same condition, but one is less offensive?
