Provided you don't have a dog, find a rabbit rescue or a 4H kid and get you a bunny. If you fix them and keep them in the house, they live eight years or so (our first made it to eleven) and vary between fun to have around and quietly hilarious. And your friend <ahem> can repay his debt to the rabbit world.
This is Simon. He likes to jump up on the couch with me and demand attention after the rest of the house has gone to bed (hence the grainy low light photo). He's my TV buddy.
And because this is a meme thread, here's an inside, Gen X kind of a meme.
I've got two rabbit stories: 1 bad and 1 good. The bad one was when the neighbor cat found a nest and left mangled bunny corpses all over my property. The good one was when an introverted friend who tended to stay home with his rabbits all the time found another bunny lover on the internet. They dated and got married. Turned out that her dad was an extremely wealthy Napa winemaker and my pal's been brought into a very nice existence.
