Your graphic is very deceptive. The rail line will certainly never be completed. They will finish building it at some point, but it will be maybe 25% of what is was supposed to be (in the least useful location) and cost many many multiples of what the entire line was supposed to cost.
Someday, someone will tell the story of this and it will be an absurd fanciful story of insane waste and graft.

Nice that you are here

Unfortunately, no, it won't. It will be an absurd, fanciful story of how lazy, selfish Americans just refuse to be smart and civilized like Europeans.

When the California high speed rail debacle inevitably fails at huge cost to the taxpayers, it will not be perceived as the concept's fault. It will be blamed on the American public for being too stupid and lazy to understand a superior idea when one is forced upon them.
But that is as close to patio territory as I am willing to go.

They literally can't build a new train line in California for billions...
Does this picture show me that they would rather build a hwy than a rail system?
In reply to MyMiatas :
No, I can see how that looks like that. They need to build some rather large structures (out of concrete, high CO2 creator, BTW) to get around things (e.g roads). Some of them are pretty massive. It's yet another part of the absurdity.
I have driven past it a few times and there is a huge sign on it bragging about how many jobs it creating. Might as well brag about how much taxpayer money you are spending having people dig a circular trench, while you pay more people to fill it behind them!
I am a fan of both railroads and high speed rail BTW. But everything has it's place.

I'm really torn between that one or my standard yard sign this year.
Maybe I should do a two sided one for the yard.

Imagine watching a Taylor Swift concert, and they break in every five minutes to show a football game.

I always wanted to put this sign in my yard since it is effectively what any of these signs are saying:
