It is, in fact, the point.
Maori get a pass because that has been a consistent part of their culture for thousands of years. And, generally, they don't look like random ass, indeed.
I will say, there is a designer my wife follows who fancies that she has Maori heritage, who draws temporary tattoos on her own face. I find that heavily pretentious - do it or don't. Commit, if it is that important. Or admit it's not that important and give it up.
