My grandparents had a rotary phone into the early '90s, and were on a party line into the mid-late '90s. I'd get off the bus from school at my grandparents' place, and piss off all of their neighbors, tying up the phone line talking to my Jr. High girlfriend for hours, more like listening to her talk.
My folks didn't get internet until I moved off to college, they had 56K dial up at home and I had DSL at college, I hated using the internet at their house.

Me! I've hardly left the house for the last year, why would I need a cell phone?
Me too. The phone line costs almost nothing with my internet package and cell reception is very weak at my house, so why not?
Where I live is a dead zone for cell service, so you have to have a land line if you want to contact anyone.
My block is a dead zone between 5g areas. Google voice with call forwarding means as long as we have WiFi we can talk. But unless you're dying, just text me. Then again, I'm not a doctor, probably shouldn't call if you're dying either.

Land line is bundled with my internet for under $20 a month. It's easier to just keep paying that than it would be to change our contact information on file at 10,000 different places.

We had the same phone number since the 80's when we also had dial phone service and a party line. It was not inexpensive, and we are not big cel phone people, either. A few years ago (I just looked it up, actually 5 years ago) I suggested we switch to a voip phone. Mrs. P fought it hard as we couldn't port our number of 30+ years. I was able to convince her and it's turned out to be an excellent move. Most of the contacts that had our number, we wished they didn't. We used to get sales calls all the time. We haven't had one in 5 years and the phone often goes weeks without ringing.
$4/month, no calls. Awesome.
My Mom actually has this phone in her kitchen

Might be racist, but it's true. Watching the back pedaling on the grocery store one is entertaining.

I forget what the modem codes were for rotary dialing, but the modem worked just fine too
Ok. Freaky way my memory works...
ATD or ATDP - pulse dialing
ATDT - touch tone dialing
I'll see myself out...
