As I understand it, "skinny jeans" specifically means jeans that are cut like women's pants and often made of very stretchy fabric, and are form-fitting all the way down, almost like leggings. That's not the same as wearing your jeans too tight, which I also did in the 80s, because everybody did, and also I hadn't yet succumbed to dad bod.
