To be fair, that is an MRAP. Ease of maintenance is secondary to ensuring the crew doesn't get blown the berkeley up. We had one run over a ~250lb IED; ripped off an axle and sent the MRAP into a complete front flip. 8 Marines inside, and the worst injury was a mild concussion. If it had been a HMMWV, we'd have been scraping them off the road to send them home.
Buddy of mine saw this sitting on a shelf
and was like, "That's such a specific time. The military went away from armored doors on HMMWVs since the armor wasn't protecting people enough so they just went ahead and took 'em off so you could shoot out of them until the MRAPs came in."

Having spent more years than I am proud of behind a dealership parts counter, I can tell you with all certainty that the VIN is an absolute necessity in an awful lot of cases, simply because some parts catalogs don't break vehicles down by description the way you and I do. Examples and war stories if you want 'em.

You need the vin to figure out what crank seal and oil pump to use in a 1991 Miata. There are reasons!

Classic. A textbook example. Thank you.

Then there's having to make the decision of for which parts you have to tell the counter about your T-56 swap and which parts don't deserve it. "You don't get to hear about the swap because I'm just buying a coil. To you it's still an automatic."

I didn't realize that tailgating with your high beams on was "real work". OTOH if that is a paying job, I can see why so many are doing it.
