^Gran Turismo 1 or 2 for Playstation 1.
I came in later, I think, but yeah, the license tests you had to pass (braking tests, lap time tests) in order to get licenses to be able to race different series were incredibly frustrating. Not sure whether the additional context was needed, but there you are.
Was gonna say, I have GT and GT2 and the graphics are nowhere near that level. And I don't think the licensing system went up that high. And that looked like an R35 in the pic, which did not exist when GT2 came out.

Okay, that's funny.
Disclaimer: I don't drive a pickup because it can move stuff. I drive a pickup because I'm frequently in areas where the ground clearance and 4wd are necessary.

All this time I thought Mater was a tow truck...he's actually an ambulance.
Gran Turismo 3's license test with the Team Oreca Viper around Laguna Seca was unbeatable. After literally tens of hours trying to make a passable time, my friend Phil and I timed our results and split it in half: he did the first half, paused the game, handed me the controller, and I did the second half.
The problem for a lot of people like us was that there was no damage in GT3 so you go bouncing off guard rails and the bot cars and it's all good. You cannot do that in the license test. You have to follow the line and do a good job of it, too.
Years later when I went to drive on a real track for the first time I bemoaned the fact that I had no experience following the line in GT3 because I cornered by pinballing off the sides of the track. Helpful Phil suggested I just stick with what I know.

I didn't have any real trouble with that Viper/Laguna test, because I didn't start playing GT until I was in my 30s. I drove the way you're supposed to drive.
The one that took me forever was golding the Camaro on the uphill at Seattle. So close. So many times. But I eventually got it.
