I heard the old warplanes flying around doing parade fly-overs this morning. Sadly couldn't see what they were because of trees. It sounded like a few pairs of fighter/bomber types and a couple big twin engine planes later. Wish I could have gotten a good look.
Anyone see any cool aircraft today at parades and things?
Near robert moses beach on.long island they had an air show yesterday, saw a few biplanes a couple of old mustangs fly out over the beach
This morning I went on a drive and saw a T6 and another plane about the same size. Both were flying fairly low and close together.

Saw a T6 take off from Waukegan airport Friday on my way home from work. There's also a tiny little strip about a mile from me that has a stearman flying pretty regularly.
2 trios were flying in formation up here in northern Cincinnati. Looked like Ww2 era, but were too far off to make out. Also saw some skydivers dropping into Kings
Island amusement park. that was pretty cool too.
I saw a formation of 4 T6's earlier. I expect to see the Camarillo boys (Bearcat, Mustang, Hellcat etc) out at some point.
Coupla Warthogs came by but that may have been just training.
I saw a Stearman in period correct paint fly over our British car show on Saturday. Nothing today.
I'm pretty sure that I saw a Corsair over New Jersey yesterday.

Nice! Those are my favorite of the (US) WWII era fighters. I've always wanted to see one in person.

I thought the A-10s had been retired...again!

Give the A-10's to the Marines. Close-air support is part of their mission, they're damn good at it and take pride in it.
The Air Force, not so much.

Pretty much, and for my entire life thus far, A-10's have been stationed with various reserve elements in the area. Fort Wayne used to always have F4's then F16's(they were stripped due to a "ufo scare" over Kokomo the last time) Who would have thought some turn 'N burn + flares + sonic booms could have ever screwed with the heads of our chrysler working population.......
Those crackpots even managed to have those ufo hunters from the "History Channel" out tresspassing in fields discovering broken tile suckholes that they claimed were "Impact Craters" Facepalms

Most of my mother's family hails from the Kokomo area. Summer family reunions were held under a flight path for Bunker Hill AFB. Constant sonic booms and B58 Hustlers prepping for landing, gear already extended, made for great memories. My great grandmother's house and her son's adjacent dairy farm were perfect viewing areas.
A cousin worked for Chrysler and drag-raced his Dart/Valiant on weekends.

Well, your family might be exempted as this took place over south Kokomo. Only barely though.

Gee, thanks, kinda...
Kudos to you for proving geography has little influence on saying or doing moronic things.

I wish it were easier to find airshows around the area(and what will be in them) Ours was canned awhile back due to the Fed cutbacks, but I WANT to see a P38 in flight.....as that will be an exceptionally rare treat.
I was in Chicago on Thursday when Obama flew in. Seeing Air Force One never gets old. It's weird, although it appears to be a regular plane--- it just stands out, even at high altitude. It's a mighty impressive machine. I can only imagine how many hours they spend polishing it---- it's incredibly clean and shiny.
During my layover in Charlotte I was lucky enough to catch a squadron of fighter jets (F16s?) taking off--- and banking hard to the right. Those things always make me feel like a little kid. I'm no airplane expert so I'm not sure what kind they were---- smaller jets with a single engine, and single rear wing IIRC.

That doesn't solve the CAS problem for the Army. In the Key West Accord, the AF promised to provide CAS to the Army in exchange for the Army giving up (nearly all) fixed-wing aircraft. The AF has never cared for the mission, though, and the only reason it ever brought the A-10 into service was to deny that money going to the Army for more attack helicopters, the AH-56 Cheyenne in particular.
Here's a great book on the A-10's development.

A few years ago, through Make-A-Wish at a Blue Angel's practice day and private meet & greet, Jacob got to sit in an A-10. The pilot says he had flown back from Iraq the day before;
When I was at the Fire Academy, the National Guard was flying A10s out of Bradley, which bordered the training grounds. I had one buzz past me, banked 90 degrees over, as I was repelling out of the fifth floor window of the training tower. It was one of the coolest moments of my life.

I know the history; its' a case of an inter-service rivalry with a resolution favoring guys wearing stars instead of those deserve a much more direct and beneficial result. With ever-shrinking budgets, reigning-in some egos is something else that needs to happen. Just mho, of course.
