When I read an article where the writer refers to a movie as a "tentpole", I immediately give up, stop reading, and close the tab.

I took that statement as a movie that if a man were laying on his back and watching such movie he would receive a "tent pole" sticking up under the sheet covering him.

I'm getting too old to do without AC in my cars. My truck had it, but that was 30 years ago and the system was deleted.

What does that even mean?

It means the writer is a pretentious weenie, near as I can figure.

That's exactly how I feel when I see someone call a car a "shooting brake"

berkeleyin nerd.

Especially since approximately 70% of the people who use the term "shooting brake" use it incorrectly.

That would be a "tent maker"

We recently found out that the other apprentice in our shop is a Mexican Menonite, and there was a recent (lighthearted) discussion about the differences between Menonites and Amish in the shop

And to make it just that much better, they speak German.

We go here regularly.  Probably not what you'd expect to see in SW Ontario

Imagine someone trying to ask about that, thinking it sounds offensive.

My wife has a habit of referring to 'masonite' (the material used for the surface of skate ramps) as 'menonite'. Which makes me think of guys with beards and straw hats busting out wicked grinds.

Which raises a number of questions and possibilities in my mind. There's no reason Amish or Menonites couldn't skateboard. Many Amish rollerblade. They're excellent carpenters. I bet they could build some wicked skate ramps.

You could also say that if you were scared to ask someone if they listen to the Grateful Dead. "He got them uh, suspenders?"

I've had a set of decent 15" BMW E36 wheels for like 8 years and no one wants them, and I've even tried listing them cheap on FB.

My totally logical brain: "You need to buy another old BMW so you can use these wheels that are just taking up space."

I think I'm just going to keep reminding myself that I sold the E36(s) because I didn't actually like them that much.

My minor confession is that I want to ask BlueInGreen - Jon for pictures of his wheels so that I can low ball him.  I also have told myself that I have way to many wheels in my collection lately.

We aren't exactly neighbors but if there's ever any GRM Express action heading your way...

My wheel collection is currently focused on fwd 5 lug Mazdas so these need to go away.

I think the problem is that no one really wants 15" wheels for their BMW (or corvette, lol)

There's a local guy who drives around in a really clean, original, normally aspirated cream colored Saab 900, and he has The Beard.

I've often wondered if he's on the Amish spectrum... or if he's just a Saab guy.

Driving home from work today in an absolute torrential thunderstorm, I see a small, cream colored roadster with antique plates on the expressway. I caught a small glimpse of the rear and front of the car before I lost it in the traffic. I couldn't ID it until I got home.

My hat's off to you, the madman driving an Austin-Healy 3000 in this near-hurricane like storm. I don't know how you fit your enormous balls in that tiny car.

I remember the windshield wipers in my dads '57/'59 Healey. I remember them being manual. I don't remember them being in any way effective.

I daily drove a Healey through two Metro NY winters in the early '70s. The wiper motor fell apart and you had to squeegy the inside of the windshield. No extra balls neede, it didn't fall over when you stopped, so it was luxury.

My minor confession: I have a -1.5% mortgage, kind of by accident.

The winding road that got me here: I applied for a HELOC last year, when the rate at my bank was something ridiculous....I think I got 3.5%.  I was hoping to build a new garage, but that's been delayed, so I haven't drawn from the account (no payments, interest, anything).  Recently I got an email from them advertising 5% CD rates.

I pulled the full amount from the HELOC, put it into checking for a couple days, then bought a CD.

They are now paying me 1.5% interest to use their money.  Life is weird.
