neighbors two houses behind me have a backyard that would give Sanford and Son a run for their money. Last count was three dead Mercedes and a Jeep, plus the usual junk piles, falling down deck, and rotting shed.  I think they are from Armenia and she barely speaks english and he is always off working. Somewhere in their backyard is a dying smoke detector and it's incessant beeping is slowly driving me mad.

That is not the worst of it. Two years ago the smoke detector system in my house malfunctioned and went off at 2 am. I could not shut it off except to pull the wires to the brain. It's since been fixed, but the dogs were extremely traumatized. Now whenever they hear that beep, they run and hide. Due to this, I cannot take them out into the backyard to do their thing, as soon as it beeps, they tuck tail and run for the door. I cannot get my point across to the wife, so I may need to do a 3am clandestine mission into their yard to find the beeping thing

Well, I am happy to say I did not have to do a thing. The wife obviously understood me more than I realized and must have gotten her husband out to find the beeping thing. Tonight when I got home from work, the beeping noise had been banished. The dogs are happy and the house no longer smells like pee

I am quickly discovering I do NOT have the patience needed to sell a bicycle on FB Marketplace.  The inane "Is this available?" messages being pushed to my phone at all hours is enough to convince me to delete the app.  Also, the even stupider "What's your bottom line/lowest/price?" messages have fully migrated over from CL.  The price is listed motherberkeleyer.  if you don't like it, make me a real offer, in person, with cash in hand.

Second time this month a guy from Ion Solar rings my doorbell and wants to sell me a system that, get this, "makes electricity from sunlight" for a few tens of thousands of dollars.  Yeah right.

How about a nice windmill?

Lunatics!

Times like these I wish I lived in a gated community.  Grrrrrrr!

That is the most annoying thing about Craigslist - trying to get me to negotiate against myself.  If you don't think my price is the best deal, then make me an offer and we'll go from there.  They don't respond to "what's your upper limit?  What's the highest amount you'll pay?"

Whatever it is I'm selling, my response is always "The lowest I'll go is the asking price in the ad until you come see it.  Then we can talk."

100 miles from home and just lost OD. Hopefully the other 3 stay together because there is no cell service between here and there.

Maybe I better take the long way home.

So truck's in the shop. $1200 to rebuild the transmission. He's going to swap the seeping rear main while he's in there for another $45. The truck was on the lift 20 minutes after I dropped it off. I should have it back by Friday at the latest.

SWMBO'S hacking and gagging for 5 BERKING WEEKS has finally come home to roost.  Now she's really sick. Your E36 M3ty remedies followed up by doing nothing at all about it didn't work just like I said it wouldn't.  Maybe next time you'll listen to me.

I'm sitting back and enjoying being smug in my smugness.

And when the grid goes down, the joke's on you! Your expensive fancy solar panels won't do jack for ya, because they feed power into the grid (which you get reimbursed for), not into your home's electrical system.

Local city council race is getting nasty already. Three seats up for vote, six people running. Two teams of three are running as a "slate". It is basically young versus old (but not boomers versus millenials). The older folks (illegally) flyered mailboxes saying "the city needs adult leadership", and then sent their minions around town to yank down all the young folks campaign signs. Childish tactics from childish people.

Distant acquaintance of mine asks for new car advice. I tell her go buy an Elantra or Forte, either suited her needs and budget. Refused to look at a Kia or Hyundai as her father would only co-sign for a " 'Murican" car. She bought a Dart instead. I just shake my head ruefully now...

I didn't have the heart to tell her it was a Hyundai in drag, i even hid replacement parts from her because they came in a Hyundai box.  TLDR.. Yes, people are dumb..devil

Should have taken her to the Kia plant in West Point, Georgia.  Or the Hyundai plant in Alabama..  That Dart was probably made in Mexico, should show her the vin plate to make her head explode..

EDIT: Just looked it up on the Wiki.. The Dart was made at the Belvedere plant in Illinois and was built in China until 2017..  Not made anywhere now.

There are only 2 true seasons: motorcycle season and hockey season. Everything else is simply waiting.

It's been said that you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet.

http://www.cityofchesapeake.net/Government/City-Departments/Departments/Police-Department/crime_prevention/halloween.htm

"Chesapeake Police staff will focus on making sure the evening is safe for everyone, not actively seeking out violations of the time or age limits. For example, a 15 year old safely trick or treating with a younger sibling is not going to have any issues. That same child taking pumpkins from porches and smashing them in the street more likely will. The City’s trick-or-treat ordinance was updated in 2019 when City Council voted to remove the (never before used) penalty of jail time and to raise the age limit to 14, making it one of the least restrictive ordinances in all of Hampton Roads.

Thank you for your help making it a fun night for everyone!"

The fact that laws like this even get passed is part of our problem.  I'm pretty sure VA already had laws against trespassing, loitering, theft, littering and vandalism.  Any of these could be used to address the above described behavior.

But it's much easier to pass another law that criminalizes normal behavior, and say "well, we won't use against anyone not behaving badly".  Until they do.

Oooooooooh, so they get points for finally deleting a berking stupid clause in their berking overwritten Draconian Virginia code.

That doesn't change the fact that it was previously  WRITTEN AND PASSED with berking jail time for inappropriate trick-or-treating in the law.

Sorry for sounding bitter, but every experience I've ever had in Virginia is like the entire state is governed by a giant Home Owners Association committe run by the oldest, crankiest busybodies they could find.
