Working on my 8th day straight sick as a dog.  At this pace, I should get better just in time to go back to work. frown

In my current car search, I'm 2 for 2 on used late-model Mazda3 hatchbacks, with clean Carfaxes, in my price range...that have been owned by smokers.  That and other issues over the last two days are reminding me why I tend to either buy cars new, or near fully depreciated.

And now I just drove half an hour and spent 15 minutes sitting in a dealership to look at a Honda Fit that I had sent a “Check Availablity” message on and gotten an email from a sales weasel that it was.  It was on a rack in the air in the service department - looks like the inspection on it wasn’t complete yet.

Currently sitting in a parking lot browsing used cars on my tablet at other dealerships in the auto mall in the hopes that I didn’t just have yet another wasted trip.

How's your personal communication game?

One of the best service writers I ever worked with was a tech who berked up his back.  He also had great interpersonal skills, so he was the perfect fit of being able to connect with customers, and knew what it was he was working with, so we didn't have to babysit him for technical stuff.

How berkeleying hard is it to bolt down an ECU using more than a single nut out of four and maybe not throw away the bracket for the DME relay either?

Yeah, I've been poking around the 911 and kinda wish I hadn't.

I bought a Porter-Cable bandsaw as a Christmas gift for myself. I start to use it and after about 3/8" being cut the blade breaks. Bummer.

I go about taking the blade out - and it's not broken! It just came off the wheels! I read the instructions how to put on a blade.

ALL of the adjustments you check when you put on a blade were off, in some cases, like not even there.

P-C says about 50 times that "these adjustments are made at the factory." BullE36 M3!

Saw works great now! angry

Went to the junkyard Saturday morning and got there a couple minutes after 8am. Took out my list of SUVs/trucks with engines that I was interested in and started looking.

Only engines available were the LM7 and L59, neither of which I actually wanted.

Then I happened upon an '01 Silverado 2500HD. Looked at the VIN, saw the 'U', and noticed the engine was still in. No way.

Immediately started unbolting everything I could and needed to (Had no saw. Now I know to bring one with me like everyone else). 4-5 hours later, it's on a cart and I'm cleaning it up, getting rid of anything that I don't want charged extra for. Looked on the back of the engine and I saw it...

4.8/5.3. Mother. berkeleyer. You've got to be kidding me. Row52 had it as 6.0, the VIN is for a 6.0, but the engine isn't. Must've been swapped out at some point. In my haste and excitement of pulling my first engine, a 6.0 of all things, I failed to look at the heads...862.

Whatever, I thought. $140 out the door for an LS is still a massive deal. Hauled that heavy son of a bitch to the check out, paid for it, took it to the small hoist they have and grabbed my wagon.

Started putting the engine in to the back of my wagon until I started to hear the ever creaking sound of plastic breaking. "Oh berkeley." I quickly lifted the engine again and under my rubber mat, I remembered it's not a solid floor under it and instead it's two storage compartments...Loaded the engine back on to the cart, walked back to the check out, and returned it for store credit...

The 40% off sale is still going on, so if for some reason I decide to head back, I'll be a bit smarter this time. I'll go buy a battery powered reciprocating saw and I'll rent a truck from Uhaul/Home Depot/Lowe's. I'm assuming it'll cut the removal time down from 4-5 hours to maybe an hour and I don't worry about breaking my already "rare" enough wagon anymore.

I just need a quote to fix the garage doors.  I dont need to hear how you feel about other races, especially those from that evil NYC area or how the fuel jugs you saw on my shelf apparently triggered some sort of emotion about how important your kids are to you blah blah something something expensive hobbies (Im guessing whatever he used to do for fun stopped when he had kids).

Like no, I don't want to or care to talk about your dating life. Just clean my damn gutters so I can go back to work.

Crazy next door lady is going crazy again. Signs up in the windows about us and talking to neighbors about us again.

100% what set her off is I one of my drivers parked in front of her house and he is African American and has dreads. She came out ready to swing when she saw him and backed off when I ran out to intervene.

Actually talking too the recruiter got me an interview on the 4th for a service writer position. I've always been pretty good with customers so I'm going to see what comes of it.

Last time she got in my face the cops got called. She is nuts I just have to deal with it till she dies. Which looks to be soon.

Honestly I really think she is in the early stages of dementia and she has no family to take care of her. Nobody comes over for the holidays and she always gets antsy around Christmas. Life is unfair sometimes to people. If you feel like life is pushing your down over other people sometimes people lash out.

8 day vacation to Arizona for Christmas/Bew Years?  Sounds like a decent trip for warm weather and relaxation?

Visiting grandparents and cousins?  Even better!

Instead, it's been the same weather that we had at home (cold and wet) on top of everyone being sick with colds off/on.

The cousins run a bookstore in Hood River and basically are spending the time here working on end of year paper work and letting their parents watch their 3-year old son, the same ones that are still getting over bronchitis and similar.

Our fifteen month old had a fever last night, keeping Mom and I up all night, and threw up this morning.

At this point, I just want to go home and relax I'm familiar surroundings.  Oh well, at least I'm not drinking more than a beer or two, so that's an improvement.  Especially since it doesn't feel like a need, just something social.

I gave up looking and just ordered new ones.  Which means I will find them as soon as the new ones ship.

Seriously?

Thanks for making this a challenge.

Also would have been nice if it hadn't been under the bar grate floor of the mezzanine above the clean room ceiling. I only had to move a 100 pound section of bar grate to get to it.

It's not hard to mount and wire these things like a professional. You should try it some time.

My next door neighbor is like that: She's a mean old bird and drove her kids away decades ago.
