If I start telling you all to shoot IT an email/ticket prior to sending a tech out, costing us money, it's probably for a good reason.

It's probably because IT can determine whether or not the site is experiencing actual issues or outages that our low voltage techs will not be able to fix. Or maybe it's a port authentication issue and sending a tech out to the site just to reset the panel won't actually solve the issue, which will then lead you down a 4 hour troubleshooting fest where the tech will just suggest replacing the main panel.

It's almost like I have an inkling of an idea as to what I'm doing and the best course of action to get our hardware back up and running.

I'm not saying I agree with his solution, but I'm starting to understand how Michael Corleone was frustrated with his older brother Fredo. I'm getting tired of making the hard decisions for the family now that Dad is gone.

If it takes you an average of 30 seconds to scan and bag each item, please let the professional checkout clerk do it for you, and leave the self-checkout to those of us who can still move with a little bit of purpose.  That is all.

They just instituted a $0.05 charge for bags of any type here in Oregon.  So if you don't bring your own....

oh and it applies to everything except restaurants.  So my BIL, who owns a bookstore in Hood River, can't give bags without charging them or face a $250 fine for each infraction.  He also can only give bags away 12 days a year.  Period.

So for the past few days, my wife has been shopping for everything but groceries and carrying reusable bags around.  She's not pleased.

I agree with banning plastic bags. I think paper is the better choice all around. Banning all types of bags is kind of silly though.

The stupid cat is still upstairs in the stupid attic doing stupid things.

We know it's alive because we've put out food and water and I put a light dusting of baby powder on the floor and saw cat tracks in it going to the food.

I've placed a Hav-A-Hart trap with food in it, but I swear this cat is stupid enough that I can picture him going to the closed end of the trap and trying to bash his way in that way. Maybe we'll hear him if he does.

It's time to change the oil in my new to me Ram 1500. FCA specifies 5w20 but 5w30 is also acceptible. I have ran Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in the 2 previous Hemi powered FCA vehicles I've owned (2010 Ram 1500 and 2005 Magnum RT) with great success. I like it because it meets Chrysler MS-6395, is relatively affordable and is fairly common. I ordered a 5 qt jug in Amazon for $21, which was the cheapest I could find. However, the Hemi takes 7 quarts. I didn't buy the 2 additional quarts online because it was literally the same price for 2 individual quarts as it was for the 5 quart jug. So I figured I'd be able to find 2 quarts locally.

Nobody in a 150 mile radius carries PUP 5w30 in stock. Nobody. Walmart carries Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 but not Ultra. None of the brick and mortar stores carry it. I can order it but I'd like it today and I'm not paying your E36 M3ty markup (looking at you AutoZone).

What the berkeley? This isn't unicorn blood. It's mass produced synthetic oil from a large producer in a common weight.

I'm so berkeleying annoyed because I have 3 days off and I might have to order the 2 additional quarts and wait until I have time off again when the auto hobby shop is open which is another 2 weeks.

We also had a bag ban go into effect on the first. I remembered to bring a couple bags but had to use self checkout.  When I set my bags down the register panicked over unexpected items in the bagging area. It seemed to do this for everyone and was annoying the one cashier overseeing the front of the store.  This seems like something they should have expected.

Some stores here have a nickel a bag charge, some don't.

I'd be fine with the shopping bags if I could ever remember to bring them into the store...

No ban here yet.

I think the whole plastic bag thing is hilarious, because I'm old enough to remember when plastic bags were invented to "SAVE THE TREES!!!!".

Meanwhile, I'm sure the stores are happy to sell you a bag that cost them $.01 for $.05...

When you guy realize there's a wad of plastic in the Pacific TWICE the size of Texas,  maybe you'll think twice. Aldi charges $.25 to use its carts, and when's the last time you've seen a loose Aldi cart in the parking lot? Get some cloth bags and be done with it. I'm no environmental hero, but it ain't that bad to take care of it yourself.

What is silly is when a city votes to do something, and then the state says "No you can't do that".

That happened twice in recent memory in Ohio.  Cleveland was going to do a $15/hr minimum wage, the state passed a law that said cities cannot set their own minimum wage.  (So the city said fine, all municipal employees have a minimum age of $15/hr, let's see you prevent that)  That was a few years ago.  Last year, Cleveland said no plastic bags.  Ohio passed a law that said cities cannot ban plastic bags..  Because berk you, I guess?

tl;dr: One city has one flavor of politics, the rest of the state has the other (as if politics were a simple binary situation instead of a three dimensional continuum), the state tries to make the city's life difficult

Might check the dashcam later today to see what berkeleying baseball hit the Crosstrek windshield on the way home and made a very large circular indentation.  I hate driving I-75.  Not even a full year, I think the Abarth had the same fate even sooner after I bought it.

Banning all bags is kind of dumb, and selling bags is dumb too.

When we went to Australia we had to bring our own bags. It was kind of dumb but ok, the annoying thing was getting more groceries than the bag capacity I had.

Making the bags thinner was dumb too because now people just use 2 or 3 because one bag rips when you look at it wrong.

Humanity in general seems utterly terrible at fixing problems on a society level, Everytime we do we rush headlong into it and end up berkeleying it up. I'm old enough to remember how we were all bastards for using paper bags because we were destroying the forests too.

Lovely.  There's a fox on the patio eating the squirrels' peanuts, and it appears to have mange.

(it doesn't appear injured, those red blotches are an artifact of the zoom on my tablet)

I assume it's stressed because it is eating peanuts and not the VERY abundant squirrels, rabbits, or skunks in the area.  Called the next door neighbor to tell her to make sure her cats are inside.  Especially worried for the one, who has a gimpy leg from an injury about 15 years ago.

They are omnivores and will eat just about anything including nuts, berries and vegetables. As a general rule, they don't mess with cats. Between the teeth and the ample supply of knives makes cats fairly unappealing to them. That said, an injured cat might tempt them.

In reply to Toyman01 :

Oh, he or she very clearly loved chowing down on all the peanuts we put out.  And I do mean ALL of them. Was even throwing some up into the air to catch in its mouth like a kid eating popcorn.  And wasn't spooked when we opened the garage door (sudden noise 10ft away) or opened the window and yelled at it.  Which tells me that it's either too desperate to care, or too ill to be thinking clearly, neither of which is a good sign.  (edit:  Or just that used to being around people, which is also not terribly good)

Not that I'd be particularly thrilled about a healthy fox, either, but they at least behave the way you'd expect.  And to be truthful, they do look pretty cool.

For reference, I don't live in an outer suburb of Cleveland, I live in the city itself, where property lots are not much bigger than postage stamps.   Wildlife much larger than a raccoon is pretty rare, although I did have a family of deer hang out in the backyard for a week.

I think I saw a fox today in the neighbors yard. I say think because my eyesight isn't great anymore and it was all the way over there but it sure looked like one.

We used to have a cool one that would walk by occasionally, the neighbor saw it kill a rat that was trying to get in their garage. I'm fine with foxes hanging around, the coyotes can go berkeley off somewhere else. I haven't seen them this year though.
