me: you need to run notepad as an administrator to be able to edit the file.
Other Guy: *doesn't*
Other Guy: why won't it save?
Me: you need to run notepad as an administrator.
Other Guy: But it won't save.
Me: yeah, it won't save it unless you're running notepad as an administrator.
Other Guy: hmm. *clicks around* Maybe if I try running it as administrator it might work?
Me: ...

The law does allow for minors to obtain a permit, and there is a fee for that, but a licensed adult operating a registered truck cannot legally operate on a dirt road anymore without carrying a permit. I do not understand any possible justification.
*Grits teeth* Why lie to me? Why? I asked you two months ago if this was going to be the situation? I even confirmed two weeks ago that things would not turn out like this knowing full well this is exactly how it it would go. I've wasted a lot of time and energy on a situation that is going to fizzle out very soon.
Dear USPS,
Why do you make it damn near impossible to receive a piece of certified mail?
My former property management company finally sent me what appears to be my security deposit (albeit 5 weeks after my move out date, FL state law states they have 2 weeks but that's a rant for another time...). They sent it certified mail. USPS attempted to deliver it while no one was home. I took the slip to my post office. The clerk could not find it and stated the mail carrier is still out on their route. She then stated that the mail carrier would not be back until after they are closed. She then asked me if I will be home tomorrow. Uh, I'll be at work. They will attempt another delivery tomorrow.
How am I possibly supposed to pickup my missed delivery if you aren't open? Why won't you just hold it there so I can pick it up? Fer berkeleys sake...

Oh, man. I am going through that with an 8 year old. I had hopes it would be over by now, and certainly by 13. Darn. You have my sympathies.

We went through something similar with my eldest daughter when she was 15. I have no advice or suggestions, unfortunately. We just weathered the storm and watched videos and looked at pictures from when she was an adorable toddler to keep us from strangling her.

I probably should have kept my hands off my keyboard.

And just like that, the arrival of a certain party means that actual discussion is over until he wanders away.

You just have to walk away. It's not worth it.
Just checked. Yep, my dislike of that thread remains...unchanged.
As in all threads that go on forever, the answer is somewhere in the middle. The voice of reason is ignored by both sides.

State quietly enacted a new law requiring an off-road permit to operate any vehicle on any unpaved surface, regardless of vehicle registration or operator licensure. They also now require actual plates on everything that isn't registered for on-road use, with exceptions for snowmobiles and motorcycles which stay on the old system of registration stickers.
Then, if you follow the links posted boldly on the states website, you will be taken to a non-state-operated site offering a course to help you pass the permit test for a low fee of $35. to be clear, the test is free, and each section will not let you move on to the next section until you select the correct answers... so it appears to be nothing but a dirty money grab.
The short version is most folks will likely either pay $35 for nothing, or miss the news entirely and get fined for operating a registered vehicle on a dirt road while licensed to do so only on paved roads.
That didn't last. I don't know if it was a cleverly hacked 3rd party that had somehow inserted their link into the state site, or just a bad idea that caught too much flak, but the site has been amended. The top of the permit page now has the word "free" and the previously $35 link now takes you to the start of the test instead. Silly bureaucrats.

Yes, it gets better.
We use to tell my 20 year old when she was younger was that she had to communicate with words rather than with stomping feet and slamming doors. Use your words, we'd tell her.
Except now when she's been home from college for Christmas break we're usually ready for her to leave after a week.
I work for a company that makes and sells collectibles. We almost never hit a scheduled release date on time. This leads to lots of angry emails and phone calls to me in customer service.
We have a particular product that missed an early November release date, then a revised mid December release date. People have been pissed off and my team has been taking a lot of abuse.
Finally, a few of these have trickled out from our warehouse and made it into the hands of our customers and the word just got back to us that there's apparently a massive error with them.
Great. Just great.
I shredded the roof of my mouth last night on a sandwich. Even water hurts today.

Damnit, they tricked me in to it again.... I again find myself in the position of sitting here on a conference call literally reading a manual to the guys that are supposed to be the day-to-day administrators of these systems.
"We've never done this before, we need your help"
I've never done this before either. Just read the manual, the steps are in there. Just search on the support site.
"Well, can you be on a call with us just in case?"
sigh.
Ugh, I hate being sick. And the only thing worse than being sick? Being sick, getting better for a few days... and then immediately getting sick (and worse) again.
The Dancer had a cold the weekend before we left for our (now annual) cross-country jaunt to our relatives' over the holidays. So of course, by the time we left on the 10-hour drive to the frigid North (it averaged like 0F while we were there...) I was in the middle of it, and had finally recovered most of the way for the two days we spent out in KC with my family. Only for me to start not feeling the best again late in the day we drove home and for it to be bad enough while we were out at our cabin over New Years' for me to immediately take one of our at-home Covid tests when we got back home on Monday. The test thankfully came up negative, but honestly if I'm not doing a bit better by midday today I may go to the clinic in the nearby Kroger to have them try and figure out if I have something worst than the flu or a cold, like bronchitis or pneumonia.

berkeleying USPS sucks balls. And add Amazon to that steaming hot pile of horse E36 M3. I ordered a package of Christmas presents a month ago. USPS sends me a delivery notice that it was left on my porch December 10th (Sunday) at 8:06PM. I got the email Monday morning, so I go out to my porch....no package. I check my security camera. It shows the USPS truck flying by my house shortly after 8PM Sunday, and going down my neighbor's driveway. Never stopped at my house. So I check with my neighbor- no, she didn't get my package, she got a bunch of stuff for her. (I've known her for 10 years, nice older lady) I check all the neighbors. Nothing.
Then I get into a back and forth with USPS and Amazon, which is ongoing. I filed a police report for stolen packages. Amazon and USPS claim the package shows "delivered" so neither is willing to make compensation, at least not till I show them a copy of the police report- which I was told could take weeks to become available. Finally, my credit card cancelled the transaction at my request.
I ended up reordering the items (from other sellers) so I'd have them in time for Christmas.

USPS is worthless.
I'm surprised Amazon was like that though. They know USPS is worthless and are usually quick to stick it to them. Especially if you have cameras.
Contractor: Yeah, about that job we've been postponing for 6 months. I need it installed by the 9th.
Me: Sorry to hear that, my calendar is already booked through the 13th at the moment. I can fit you in on the 16th or 17th.
Contractor: But this is a rush job...

My experience is that Fedex and UPS are possibly worst and charge you a bunch more too. I had UPS lose two packages before Christmas and have one run a week late.
I am like a bloody waterfall today. Fml.
