My work partner for about ten years, when asked how he was doing, would always answer with , I'm just happy to be here, man.
People thought he liked working there. What he really meant was that he was just glad that he woke up on the right side of the grass

I've said "fine" for years when I wished I could have said all of that. There were some things I did/felt when I was "fine" that I haven't told a soul, including Applewife.
Sorry dude, we should all have someone to talk or vent to. I'm happy to listen if you need.
Now I definitely vent to people who are intentionally not Tunawife, though I ran headfirst into the boundary of those conversations early on. Other than complaining about bedroom things to extremely attractive and available colleagues, it can really help.

When people ask me how I'm doing, I never remember to just say fine.
My mouth just starts blabbering about anxiety, depression and lack of motivation. Which clearly is a conversation killer.
Why can't I just say fine?
"when people ask me how i’m doing the real answer is i’m doing E36 M3ty, but i can’t say i’m doing E36 M3ty because i don’t even have a good reason to be doing E36 M3ty. so if i say "i’m doing E36 M3ty" then they say "why? what’s wrong?" and i have to be like "i don’t know, all of it?" so instead when people ask me how i’m doing, i usually say "i am so great"' If you need some humorous insight as to why you feel how you feel it's a very solid show.
As someone who can never not say "fine" or some version there of and desperately try to move the conversation forward before having to open up honestly your way is probably better. The weight I and people wired like me carry around on a day to day is genuinely crippling. Keep doing what you're doing being open will keep the good ones around and save you from caring about the bad ones.
Now for a rant...
The average customer of the manufacturer I work for is OMG level dumb. Hour long phone call this morning lady doesn't know where her car is, will not grasp that I have no legal authority and cannot commission the police to "return the car" at minute 54 she mentions she hasn't made a car payment since Thanksgiving...
In reply to Peabody :
Reminds me of an elderly transplant patient's answer to that question: "Well, better than nothing!" he would say.
Reason 24236762247 I hate self checkouts.
Just now realizing, 3 hours later, I left a bag at the store rushing through checkout. Ground beef and sausage. Almost $18.
How is it the self checkouts fault?
Because when I'm not in a bathroom hurry, I bag everything and get it in the cart, and someone is there to say something if I forget. Instead, I paid for, and surely ruined, perfectly good meat.

Why do I have to call and talk to someone to cancel an insurance policy? You let me remove one vehicle from the policy on your website, but to remove the second and now only one I have to call my agent?

Here's a really nonsensical one for you: A year or so ago, my parents were reviewing their auto insurance and saw that my middle sister was still listed as as occasional driver on their insurance. My father thought "Well, she hasn't lived with us in a decade, removing her will probably save a couple bucks." He selected the option to remove her, and the site indicated that their payments were going to go up a couple dollars. Needless to say, he left her on there.
We went to Tahoe City for the weekend. On Sunday we drove over to Incline Village. As we were making our way though Kings Beach a guy was trying to pull out of a parking lot from our right. He was looking over his right shoulder at traffic in the oncoming lane and pulled out right in front of the car in front of me. That car swerved around him so he stopped right in the middle of the lane. I stopped with the bumper of my truck about 3 feet from his door and honked. He NEVER looked to his left until he found a gap in the oncoming traffic. When he finally moved he flipped me the bird like I was being the @$$hole. My wife said he looked drunk or severely stoned.
Note to self: Don't visit Tahoe over a holiday weekend. You knew it would be "interesting". I seem to have to learn that lesson about once a decade. LOL!

It's not just Tahoe...
One of the primary reasons I stopped riding motorcycles is that people now seem to think it's your fault when they violate your right-0f-way, and give zero berkeleys pulling out right in front of you. Especially if you're on a bike.

In reply to NickD :
When I removed Jodi, who had just totaled one car and almost totaled a second, my insurance went up because married women are safer drivers than single men. Adding the Corvette lowered it back down because multi-car discount.
In reply to CAinCA :
Tahoe on a holiday weekend definitely is "interesting" and better avoided.

Similarly, when I took the first motorcycle off the policy - the Goldwing - the total annual premium went up by $31. Not that the Nighthawk was X, the goldwing was Y, the total policy used to be X+Y and now it was going to be X+31. No. The old policy was X+Y=payment and taking the 'wing off mean the new policy was X+Y+31=payment.
In reply to Wally (Forum Supporter) :
This insurance talk reminds me I wanted to rant about Liberty Mutual. Been with them since 2015 for cars, home, and an umbrella. The auto went up a lot the last few years as expected as the two kids turned 16. This year, the home and umbrella went up a lot on the renewal quote. So, I had AAA and State Farm quote apples to apples against the LM quote. They came in 52% and 65% lower for exactly the same coverage. Both other agents said they couldn't believe how much LM wanted to charge. I now feel abused by LM. I've heard you should shop your insurance around every three years or so, but I never expected that big a difference after 7 years.
That fantastic burrito i had from the taco truck for lunch yesterday?
Still paying for it.

I could swear I was taught that your BAC doubles at 9,000 ft. when I took ground school.
I know air pressure reduces by about half every 18,000 so I checked to confirm the BAC doubling was in fact at 9,000 ft.
It looks more recent studies have debunked the belief...apparently, there's no effect.
Perhaps this post would be better positionedin TIL.

Sometimes it's worth it to pay in installments for a burrito. First installment is cash, second installment is .. well, you know.
I should've known better than to get a car from up North. Even being "not bad" it's still way worse than I've gotten used to. My only consolation is that it's for the kids to learn in, so if it gets dinged up, it's no terrible loss.

From an article on the website of one of the local TV stations:
Copper wire scrap can sell for $2.5 per pound, while insulated copper wire can sell for 84 cents a pound, according to scrapmonster.com
Thieves get nearly 200 to 400 square feet of wiring every time they break into the light poles, Bullock explains.
Okay... So price per pound and then you're telling us they get square... Feet? Of wire? Number one, if you're going to give us a price per something metric, maybe you'd want to use the same metric when you tell us how much they stole.
Second... How the hell do you measure wire in square feet? How is that possibly a useful metric?
For maybe the second or third time in my life, I felt guilty and uneasy about buying food. Not a giant steak or imported chocolate , but regular food, bread, milk, crackers, E36 M3 like that.
The money/job situation is definitely berkeleying with my head. It isn't meltdown critical, but my mind is SCRAMing the reactors. The anxiety is turning me every way but loose. If this job I'm currently working on doesn't pan out, I'm in serious E36 M3.
I'm just glad i can still pull a smile for him and hellspawn is too young to notice Dad stewing in his own juice.

On paper, the idea of Chassis Ears is great. In practice, I don't think they've ever helped me with a noise diagnosis in any of the times I've used them.
