I looked forward to 12 days off in a row. Endured a long ass sales meeting last month and all my fall travels so I can enjoy that time off.

It always happens that I'm looking at the 10pm news getting ready for work tomorrow wondering where did my time off go???

I took Christmas to New Years off.

I have been sick the entire time.

Starting week 3 of this E36 M3. Doctors visits have been a waste of time and money.

Had what felt like the most wasteful medical visit of my life today when I went to see a doctor about over a month of nearly constant headaches and insomnia that seem to feed into each other in a terrible positive feedback loop. Spent about 3 hours waiting, got my vitals checked twice, he tells me everything looks good and asks if I've tried Tylenol. I say no, he looks at me like I'm a dumbass and asks why not. I say...I haven't been advised to, that's why I'm here (seems to be way more than a Tylenol-grade issue to me). Says these are things that happen as you get older and I should chuck Tylenol at it to see if it helps. Good thing it only cost me $15 in parking.

If this is a normal age-related problem, I've vastly overestimated what would be a sensible age to live to. I expect creaky joints, constipation and a weak pee stream but not indefinite sleep deprivation torture from my own brain.

Old creaky man here.  Thats not normal.  Tylenol to address makes sense once or twice.  But for a recurring issue there has to be something else going on.

I have had many, many, many, frustratingly unfruitful doc. visits this year.  I feel your plain (in a different area though).

Very first repair order of 2025, I've got a brand-new Buick Envista with all sorts of ABS, Service Brake, Speed Restricted, and Brake Fluid Leak Detected messages on the dash. Pick it up and discover that from the factory, the brake line wasn't properly clipped into the bracket on the frame and the shock rubbed a hole in the brake line. Happy berkeleying New Year's

This reminds me that on a Saturn its possible to rotate the caliper 360 then install and it puts the brake line in a weird position that will rub on the tire during tighter turns.  I've seen it happen may times, and accidentally done it a few times myself.  Not a great design.

But from reading the story it doesn't seem like he tried Tylenol even once.

I could be misreading but I think I might have started there.

I'd definitely want a better opinion.  I'm old and creaky, and the only things that require regular pain killers (2-3 times a month) are things I broke badly growing up.  Everything else is generally a minor, infrequent annoyance

Pretty minor this rant: why, with all of the AI buzz, or even just requiring every photo have a unique md5, does no car listing site have the ability to preserve the "show only listings with photos" filter by detecting this crap?

Ultra minor rant. I don't know if I should blame the ADD or my age, but I spent quite a bit of time yesterday looking for the check key so I could use the drill. I spent more time than I'd like to admit moving things around the workbench at the side of the garage.  Last night, when I was putting my keys away, I found the check key in my pocket.

Tape it to the power cable if you have one. Mine has been there for a decade and its the only way I don't loose them.

I had about 36 days off straight because I saved my vacation. My body took this as the go ahead to sleep like I have never before. ~10 hours a day for the four weeks straight. I forgot what a good baseline for health was. ave not had this much time off since I was 14 and started working. It was lovely and I want to retire.

I have been back at the office for two days and my heart rate is already creeping back up to where it was. I had 583 emails this morning as well since I stopped checking around the 21th of December. Many others took the same time off because all the stars aligned, six of them handed in notice to retire and are leaving so maybe the feeling is mutual.

Dude, with the resources it seems like you have put away, I've been wondering why you haven't retired yet for at least three years.

I may have tried it one night early on before any pattern developed, but no regular use. The idea of treating them with ordinary OTC painkillers just didn't cross my mind because they were such wildly abnormal headaches in terms of sensation, duration and apparent cause. I didn't even look at it as a headache problem but as the headaches being a symptom of an insomnia problem.

To be fair I slammed 2 extra strength last night and probably matched the most sleep I got since this trouble started, if I can keep that up I may start to pull out of this downward spiral, so the doc may turn out to be correct.

Of course...

It's -25c outside, my outside cleanout is buried under waist-deep snow and I only have a vague idea of where it is.

And my main drain from my house to my septic lagoon is blocked. Lagoon isn't frozen solid because I just went down and poked a hole in the ice with a T-post.

My drain bladder isn't moving whatever the clog is so now I get to hope that whatever is clogging the line is within 100' of the house because I have to rent a power auger tomorrow. The line is probably 250' - 300'.

Yay... fun and games with a camp toilet in the bathroom tonight.

Madam, is there any chance you could wait until the child is asleep before you tromp around the house, flipping thousands of lumens' worth of lights on and off at random, preparing what I'm sure is a nutritionally necessary bowl of Cocoa Roos with all the silent tact and discretion of an English butler performing a one-man Maori haka, and consuming it like an InSinkErator swallowing two pounds of roofing nails?

This virtual school bullE36 M3 didn't work during the pandemic and doesn't work now. Oh no, a whole almost inch of snow, better shut the whole world down and punish all the parents. Bonus though for waiting until 5 am to let us know so we can, you know, plan around it.

Rant #1:

I didn't have "Staying a few days longer with family in Europe so I can attend an uncle's funeral" on my 2025 bingo card.

Comparatively minor rant #2:

EV charging solution blow in comparison to refilling gas cars, and twice as much when you're abroad and can't get the appropriate apps in the app store for your phone.

... and Rant #3:

I need to extend my car rental by a few days, the International Rental Car company's app doesn't recognize the rental and their local-ish car rental office (only about 40 miles away) is closed.

Guess I get to call them tomorrow morning and check what they can do to address this, otherwise I'm looking at a 7h round trip on Monday to either fix the issue or swap rental cars.

My fiancées father wants us to do a marriage in Jordan (where they're from) in addition to the planned one in the US. I'm open to it, but damn, there's are so many steps I'm not sure how possible it is without staying there for a month. We have to get a blood test to make sure we done have risk factors for certain conditions, I'd have to officially convert (we're not religious so I don't care tbh), I'd have to get an ID number assigned, then get their office of foreign affairs to sign off on it since I'm a US citizen, then we could finally get married. I thought when we decided to elope in Vegas, we'd be able to avoid all the placing stress.

Much more minor rant, the pool cover didn't stay on during a recent storm (above ground pool built into the deck) And now the pool is full of E36 M3. Gonna have to find a better solution next winter. Maybe removable hooks attached to the deck?

Yep. It's a Friday after a major holiday. Most people aren't even back in the office. I should be able to really get some stuff done. LOL

Multiple Teams calls this morning. Two, back to back, hour long meetings scheduled for Friday afternoon. Productivity, E36 M3. I should have taken the day off.
