I really begin to dislike the people at work who use their phones to watch videos and play music while eating in the cafeteria. I understand you want to be entertained. but the rest of the room (and it is a large room) probably does not want to hear it too

All the announcements about the Challenge this year have me wanting to go even more badly than I did before- but it will take more than a minor miracle to have the El Camino even capable of making the trip down to Florida much less being able to be worth running in the competition (OK, so a G-body El Camino isn't likely to be competitive largely regardless of what I do, but still...). I could pick up something else really cheap- but I'd have to balance my choice there with either being able to turn around and sell it easily after the Challenge or pick up something that could be driven as a decent winter beater (since when the weather turns bad it's much harder to bike and I'm very loathe to drive the 'D through snow and salt). I'm starting to wonder if it's worth even bothering to try and just accept that it will be at least another year before I've got the Elky ready to be there and compete...

EDIT: snerk I should buy this (assuming I could get it cheap enough- http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/5133714877.html), paint it white, and deck it out like Ecto 1. SWMBO would probably kill me though, given she hates wagons.

Just pre-paid my portion of a surgery I'm having soon. I'm not mad a the price I'm paying, I'm mad that the previous time I priced it the cost was 2x as much out of pocket. The difference is now I'm paying for my own insurance (self employed) where before I was using an employer provided plan. I also pay less per month in premiums. How on earth is is cheaper for me to have insurance on my own rather than with a giant mega corporation?

What the hell is wrong with welding hood manufacturers? Why is this crap the only stuff available?

Went to the two local pro welding shops last week. Everything was covered in ridiculous graphics, they were both uninterested in finding me something that wasn't. Hopped on the Snap-on truck and said "Dave, I need a new welding hood" and he said Great! I have those. I rebutted with I want a decent sized lens but I refuse to buy one covered in skulls, spiders, flames, flags or eagles"

He stammered for a bit and said "I don't know if those exist anymore, is a deck of cards in a skeleton hand ok?" No, No it berkeleying isn't.

We dug around in his catalog and he is ordering me the only one that is currently available. A blue point with a tiny lens. I guarantee I will be unhappy with it.

When a customer that is spending almost 6 figures on a restoration walks in the shop I want to look like a freaking professional, NOT sa twelve year old dressed up for halloween or comicon. I am embarrassed to be near some of this E36 M3.

Sigh, college berkeleying football season. It's not bad enough I have to avoid the political BS on FaceBook and around the office ; I work with a bunch of ex-marines, so it can get a bit interesting at lunch), now I have to listen to them drivel on and on about some stupid kids playing a game instead and making everyone else a bunch of money while risking their lives. Oh and some might even earn an education.

I'm an shiny happy person!

Went to my usual service station on my way home from work to fill up. I pull up at the only bowser open that's on the right side of my car and notic a young lady parked in the no parking zone directly in front of said bowser. The no parking zone is there as even without a car there it can be a bit of a hard swing to get past the pumps without mounting the footpath in front of the store. I see the lady parked beside me struggle to get past, and another person from the next pump over have the same problem. As I finish filling up I notice she's still parked there. As I walk past on my way in to pay, I shake my head and tell her she's parked in a no parking zone.... Nothing.

I go in and pay, and surprise surprise when I come out, she's still there, playing with her phone. Can you please move? I ask her politely, and point out that she's in a no parking zone and it makes it hard for people to get out once they're done filling. "I'm just waiting for someone is" her response. I smile, "sure, I understand", but your still parked in a no parking zone and your making it really hard for other people to get out. But I'm waiting for someone she replied quite snarkily. That's fine, perhaps you could wait for them in one of the many empty parking spaces so your not inconveniencing everyone else?

berkeley you, you're such a berkeleying shiny happy person, I don't have to move..

Whatever, your so rude I say as I turn and walk off, her ranting and cursing in the background.

I ended up having to take a couple of bites at getting out of the pump, the temptation to floor it and side swipe her car was immense, but that would have actually made me and shiny happy person so I refrained

All I can say is I hope karma catches up with the charmer, cause she'll deserve everything she gets.

My intern came to work today in his new BRZ. The combined value of my family's three cars is probably less than how much it cost. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or wrong.

Depends. I have to remind myself almost every day why I am not daily driving a $50k car or truck... and it comes back to having a $30k rally car, a $7k truck, a fun toy to daily drive, and spending $20k+ per year going racing.

And I don't have a family, I've heard those are expensive

My rant of the day? I have an older co-worker (I guess you could call him "senior" to my position, but we all have equal pull) who chose his desk at the end of a blocked off "u-shaped" cubicle farm. He walks by my desk 50+ times a day, for no apparent reason. Its a joke we have that we take a drink every time he walks by. I think he likes to keep tabs on the other employees and try and make himself look good to the boss, even though the boss doesn't give a crap.

Its just stressful having someone walk by every 5 minutes. Its like SIT THE berkeley DOWN, YOU AREN'T FOOLING ANYONE

I keep finding more reasons to hate my cousin's girlfriend. He's 40 and she's maybe 38. She moved in with him and proceeded make the place look like an episode of "Hoarders". She's had a steady job for over a decade, no divorce, no mortgage history, and still needed her parents to co-sign on her car loan. At almost 40. She hates crowds and going out, so she has effectively removed my cousin from the things he used to enjoy (mainly traveling to various gaming conventions around the country). He has given up and is going to settle for her, which is sad. Luckily I only have to deal with her at Christmas, but I hate how she's dragging his life down just because she's given up.

This is getting old. Finally got to bed last night at 11:00 to enjoy a nice 4 hours of sleep. Smoke detector went off at 12:00, dog heard something outside at 1:30 and now 3:30 it's time for work.

IT.

So the very crappy IE8 is all that is actually approved. With Win7.

But all of IT's internal websites don't work in IE8. WHY???

Yes, I know it sucks, but since you guys are incapable of upgrading the company to modern software, making all of us suffer in crapness, you should be forced to make your stuff work in the only official browser for the company.

OR upgrade the company.

Don't make us guess if we should use the unofficial browser.

If its anything like most companies I've worked at, it isn't IT's fault so much as the various owners of the web applications who won't budget time and resources to update their products. IT often has their hand's tied. Obviously IT has their products updated and are running a newer browser, its the other groups that may be dragging their heals.

A solution for dealing with browser issues like this (without actually updating the sites) is to run an alternative browser like FireFox or to run the older IE browsers via Citrix (i.e. virtually).
