I did that on my '99. Destroyed a catalyst. Thankfully, it was replaced under warranty.

This is how I feel about people with mega-expensive Diesel trucks (redundant) complaining about the cost of DEF, which allows their engine to run clean enough to make 5 times the power and torque that they could have made before the Diesel emissions tech revolution.

If I find any damage to the cat later I'll replace it with a long tube header. 100 mile since I noticed no ill effects.

so I am having a new hood delivered for my disco. I originally set it up for between 10 and 2 pm. Just heard from their call centre.. between 4 and 6 now. Thanks for completely ruining my day and making it so I cannot go up to Delaware to pick up my new boat. Now I have to wait a week for the latter due to my working all evenings this week

I am berkeleying tired of ticks. The dog gets walked 3 times a day around the apartment complex. I've found 3 ticks on me in the last 5 days. This is walking in grass that is cut - not overly deep, no tall weeds, etc. Now every little tingle has me dropping trou or pulling off my shirt because who wants a tick?

Email lit up minutes after posting. Sent contact info to 'first in', no reply. Next in, no reply. Sent out eight more replies, nothing. Is the system berkeleying broke? WTF

Finally a first response, he wonders if I could hold them for two days. WTF

E36 M3, I can't even give stuff away on CL.

I spent the afternoon cursing out German engineers who designed something that was built the year I was born, and is as old a design then as I am now, to the point where at the end of the day I was so beat up, tired, and out-of-it that I forgot to take home the engine mounting bracket that I converted from 12A to 13B using a vise, a hammer, some fire, and Channel-Locks.

I guess I'm NOT putting an engine in my RX-7 this weekend.

Also? Doing an alternator in a fuel injected aircooled Beetle well and truly sucks. I have heard that Ferdinand Porsche ganked the original Type 1's design from the Czechs, I can believe this because the engine appears to have been designed by Franz Kafka. To access anything, there will be a minimum of one fastener hidden behind something else, and this chain of interference loops around Ouroboros-like so that the original part you need to remove is interfering with the last link in the chain.

Next time anyone complains about modern cars being hard to work on, VWAG in particular, I will have a hearty laugh at their expense and call them wimpy girly-men (even if they are, in actuality, female). Mostly stoned hippies in the 60s and 70s worked on these ACVWs all the time and they make modern cars look like the easiest things in the world to work on...

There's a video trending on youtube right now about a DIY "nice" horn. I watched it, then a related video about train horn pranks.

Shouldn't have done it. It contained what it said on the tin.

I am deeply disappointed in humanity.

Stupidly assumed my AX tires would last longer than they did.
Stupidly waited until the last minute to buy new ones before Canuck nationals.
Stupidly assumed work could get them.

They couldn't, had to shell out for expedited shipping from the Rack.

Related: as far as I can tell, the rack is the only place that sells ExtremeContact Sport tires.

Unwatchable. The person who posted it opted to process it through YouTube's image stablization, which makes everything move and wobble like a stoned scene from That 70's Show.

Some dickhead was riding a quad at 40 mph in the right hand driving lane out on the four lane bypass. Traffic rolls down the mountain there at 65 plus easy, it's heavy weekend traffic at 4 p.m. too so two lanes full. Only saw it coming because driving my truck, cars evidently not so much so there were some interesting braking and maneuvers around the asshat.

He looked berkeleying oblivious to anything, like he owned the motherberkeleying road. No eyewear, no helmet, not that that would matter because asswipe. There was a generous, paved, clean shoulder to ride on as well.

This E36 M3 is why I hate my county, full of asshats who are too stupid or think they're some kind of privileged. If he'd get slammed like a bug on a windshield I could berkeleying care less. Stupid shiny happy person. EMS passed me a little down the road, I hope they called it in to 911 dispatch.

Anymore, I root for LEO's to get the shiny happy people off the road.

90% certain I would have died at the range today if I had stayed the whole time I paid for. They had a open carry class for security guards and they were qualifying and it was a E36 M3 show. I have never seen such irresponsible behavior in my life. There trainer was this orca fat man who put a .45 wheel gun in the hands of people who have never shot and just walked away. Small framed girl did her qualification and hit the ceiling twice.

Had to go get the range safety officer and show him what was going on down at that end of the pistol range. They are not coming back. On a side note I taught two Kenyan's how to shoot properly as they were the only ones looking like they were paying attention and they passed their qualification shoot with flying colors.

In the future if I have to teach people again I am just going to to it with a red dot. Couple of the guys who tried my gun went from missing on a 5 yard target to at least hitting the silhouette every single time. Orca guy got a bit in my face about teaching his people basic saftey and how to use the sights. Yeah it was a weird day.

Not so much a rant as a disappointment. The Fiat needs front struts. After markets don't exist but I got OEM pieces for about $110 each which I was ok with. I set out this morning and in spite of having 111,000 miles on salty NY roads the car came apart easily and in less that an hour both struts were on my workbench. Then my Harbor Freight clamshell spring compressor gave up. The threads pulled out of the crossbar. I can't be too mad because I picked it up for about $20 and it's probably done 15-20 pairs of struts in the last ten years but I'm still saddened by its loss.

Been fighting with my computer (6-year-old iMac that was top-of-the-line when bought) trying to do the media work SWMBO needs for her show. Solicited advice on FB from friends who do this kind of thing for a living- and about $170 and an hour of work later I'm boggling at how fast the thing is with a SSD as the system drive. berkeley, I could have saved HOURS of time had I done this a few months back...

I basically bought a half-TB SSD drive and a kit with the cable and adhesive pads necessary to connect/attach the drive to my iMac and then had to halfway disassemble the computer to install it. Nothing that really scares me since I've done worse (though on other computers, not this one). Just had to do a few things in copying files over to the new drive so the computer could boot from it, and viola- it's running faster than brand new. Used to take well over a minute to start and get logged in- the login screen comes up in like 10 seconds and it's only another 10-15 before it's running logged and usable. And the video/photo work I needed to do is going SO much faster.

The photo work has helped by one of my friends recommending a FAR more optimized program for my photo work too than what I had been using (GIMP) and also far cheaper than what I though I needed to get to speed things up (Adobe, which has moved to a subscription-only setup).

Yup. Had been looking at having to spend a minimum of 5x what I did to upgrade to a newer-model computer while (in effect) losing some capability (since the newer iMacs don't have an optical drive, which I still use enough to need). Instead this should keep my existing computer usable for at least another 2 years or so if not more. I'll be thrilled if I get another 4 years out of it- 10 years from a computer these days would be a nice return on investment!

My personal computer is a 2010 macbook pro 15". With the SSD it runs great!

I also built a new home desktop for power use, but it cost a bit more...

I've said it here before: an SSD is the single best upgrade you can do to your computer nowadays. There's nothing else that comes close.
