  • Never watched a Clint Eastwood Western or a John Wayne western and am sure I couldn't sit through one.

Unforgiven is all you need to watch.

Unforgiven is a great movie, not just a great Western.

I would probably add at least The Outlaw Josie Wales for Eastwood and Rio Bravo for John Wayne to that list although there's a lot of others

That is exactly what I hate about indepth movie discussion.  I have exactly no interest in the motivation for the characters.

Punch the bad guy, throw him off Nakajima Tower, go home with the girl.  That's it.

Those kind of movies bore me, there's nothing to think about.  Nothing to notice on a second or fifth viewing.

Josie Wales and Little Big Man.  Both wonderful movies made better by Chief Dan George.

Both simple entertainment and deep thought have a place in good movies.

What gets old fast is utter predictability a la the Hallmark Channel.

Harold and Maude was a stupid berkeleying movie and a waste of a nice Jaguar.

I'm OK with deeper movies, but Batman isn't deep, and that video guy was just digging for bullE36 M3 to make himself look woke, or smart, or deep.

It's frickin Batman.

Really I'm not even sure John Wayne acts from what I've seen.

But if you like what he does he does it every single time. I can't say I'm a big fan but it works for him in the limited role he plays

Hot Fuzz finally displaced Better Off Dead as my favorite movie.

I don't need help feeling angry, scared, awkward, or depressed, so I don't have much use for horror, drama, or most recent comedy.

I like the Harry Potter movies. I don't care that they're "just kids' movies"; escape to a magical, temporally-variable Britain for light adventure punctuated by feasts... That's my kind of escapism.

Lord of the Rings movies have adventure and feasts, but not enough feasts and it takes a while to forget Sam's whinging enough to want to watch them again. Babish has menus to go with marathon viewing, though, so maybe I'll try that next lockdown.

Repo Man is amazing, and if you like that, you should also watch Straight to Hell.

Yes, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is objectively terrible, but that's not the point. It's a big shared joke. Anybody who's watched it by themselves or in a small group who were just trying to see the movie totally missed the point. It's entirely possible that if you haven't seen it before you're old enough to get into a bar, you'll have lost the childish grasp of absurdity needed to enjoy the experience. I haven't seen it in decades and don't know that I ever need to see it again, but am glad of having had the full theater experience in high school.

These opinions and my willingness to participate in this thread brought to you by my discovery of the Aviation cocktail. Smashing. Who knew Creme de Violette had a reason to exist?

I have no interest in superhero movies like Batman. Exception to rule--The Incredibles, because it kind of makes fun of the whole genre while being a good movie.

I've only seen two Star Wars movies. Both were against my will, to make my wife happy. I don't get the hype. They are all basically the same script.

I've sworn off any movie with Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell or Nicholas Cage (exception: Raising Arizona, because Coen Brothers).

I'll watch any movie with Olivia Wilde because she's got so much talent she could beat Meryl Streep in a cage match.

Film Noir was the best era of cinema.

The over-use of CGI has ruined most movies, particularly anything with car action.

Steve McQueen was the coolest dude ever, though I find most of his movies tedious.

In The Heat of the Night is one of the best-acted films ever made.

John Hughes understood teenagers better than any adult had a right to. Younger generations may not understand his films, but if you grew up in the 1980s he was our voice.

I've seen bits and piece of most of the Star Wars flicks and I find the Mandalorian the most enjoyable to me.

I tried watching the first Lord of the Rings and made it 30 minutes before I said check please!

Smokey and the Bandit is one of the best movies ever made. I can watch it a million times and recite it line by line and still enjoy it.

In Time is a really underrated action movie. Justin Timberlake is a decent actor. He was solid in both Alpha Dog and Ahead of the Curve.

Alien gets my vote for most scary movie of them all. I saw the re-release in theaters in the early 2000s and it was still scary.

I've only seen one Harry Potter movie in it's entirety and I still fell asleep through it.

Ronin has the best car chase ever put on film.

Ben stiller was only good in Tropic Thunder. Most of his other movies I can pass on.

Ben Stillers version of Walter Mitty was watchable.  It's fun trying to decide exactly where his fantasy life disappears.

Plus, the jet they fly to Iceland is hilarious.

What pisses me off are movies that are predictable and pretentious. Movies that think they're deep, when they're just pretentiously tarted up and either saying either nothing or retreading simple material that's already been done better.

This is most Oscar movies.

Even though though most haven't seen it, Defendor is a great movie that is both funny at times and really really sad when you think about it.

The soundtrack more than made up for the some of the sillier scenes as well as what they did to the Jag.
