Something weird happened today.

I was looking at my phone, and on the Yahoo splash page, you know there are always news articles you generally don't pay any attention to. Well the one at the top which was visible had a picture of Kurt Cobain, and it was about his guitar selling for a record price at auction. My 5-year-old happened to be sitting next to me, and he goes "Hey dad, there's a guy who's going to kill himself." I said "What? Why do you say that?" "I just think he's going to kill himself." "But why do you say that?" "I dunno, I just think so." ...Now, he has NO IDEA who Kurt Cobain is and has never seen him before or anything about him. He just saw the picture. I wouldn't even have guessed he had any concept of someone killing themselves.

Maybe sometimes little kids can see certain things, which they haven't yet been taught not to see.

That's not how you do it.  You ask him to pick a bunch of numbers and see if it matches any lottery patterns

I'd followed a scientifically oriented logic all of my life, until my father met and became involved with a Scottish woman on a trip to the island of Iona.

Details are far outside of the context of this discussion, but one of the things that changed my thinking was this: he took her to races at the horse track where I working. She picked the first, second, and last horse, nine races in a row. That's statistically impossible.

She wouldn't gamble. She said it would be cheating.

I don't try to analyze it. I've learned to accept it.

My advice is to accept it quietly, if you teach him to suppress whatever it is that he has, it will be gone.

My sister in law is a nurse and she can predict patients who will not last the night. She has 100 per cent accuracy over many years.

Perhaps he may have a deep sense of past and future..May be someone like "Edgar Cayce"..You will be able to get to know his abilities, if he continues this kind of  responses.. I apologize if I have mentioned something inappropriate here..

Hospice people are quite knowledgeable people in this regard.

For a real explanation, it can really surprise you how much TV and popular media kids can absorb and Kurt Cobain is still a popular figure in pop culture.  I would not be surprised to find out that he saw (as a random example) an episode of the Simpsons with a Nirvana joke, if not the Simpsons then maybe some other show.  I know Southpark did one fairly recently

Heres one, my wife opens a new bottle of hand sanitizer, and my 4 yo daughter says "where's that from?" My wife responds she doesn't know so my daughter says "I think it's from Texas".

Sure enough, label says manufactured in Texas. But only in tiny print and my daughter had not even seen the bottle up close yet.

We didn't know she knew Texas was a place...

When my kids were young I remember them saying "when I was big ..." then they would go on to tell me some story. The stories were never about anything real important, but they were about stuff you would only do as an adult. In the back of my mind I was always thinking about the possibility of reincarnation, and maybe the experiences of a past life hadn't been forgotten yet.

He's five and has never heard of those shows. He sees about 45 minutes of "screen time" a day, and it consists of pre-recorded movies or older TV programs which have been vetted by his parents. He and his three siblings take turns deciding what to watch during those 45 minutes. Believe me, he has no idea who Kurt Cobain is. However, he thinks his favorite band is the Belorussian synth-pop group Molchat Doma:

Young kids come up with some strange stuff alright. I do think is has something to do with their chronological proximity to the great beyond.

Although I'd say he has good taste in music, that link does sound like music from an X-Files episode. Seems appropriate.

When my daughter was born her eyes were wide open and focusing on everything. It gave me chills the way she was so aware. And same thing, when she was 2-3 she would tell stories about "when I was big" of super mundane things that she had never heard of.

Confusing Texas with Oklahoma (or the half of it that still exists) is probably more of an insult to Texans than saying they are all steers or queers.

Maybe he could see it in Kurt's eyes, had that tortured artist thing going on.  How long before he killed himself is the photo?
