1) Never take heat and mass transfer.

2) Never get in a long distance realationship (having been in one for 3 and half ish years, it sucks)

3) Never lead a Formula SAE team esp when the school won't fund you and no one higher up at the school gives a E36 M3 about any student projects except for one.

4) No one ever turns up on time for anything you ask them to.

Typical day in the week of an engineering student.

I had two exams, a quiz, and a presentation to give over the last two days. Fun fun. Finally getting a break now, yours will arrive soon.

At least your not alone...

Experimental physics lab reports, Fluid mechanics lab reports, finalizing a paper for presentation at an international conference, and a monster paper to write for seminar.

I wish I had a job and actually made money

oh yeah, add in grad school applications

Yup pretty much I got to the engineering build at my school at 8 this morning and left at 10 tonight. I have between homework and Formula already done 58 hours of work between Monday and today.

I know what you mean. I work about 70 hours a week, and I don't even have a job. Taking 20 credit hours was a dumb idea.

This one scares me a little. I've been with my girlfriend for 2 years, will be 2.75 at the end of the school year. After that, it will be at the very least 1, and probably 2 years of long distance.

Never, EVER, under any circumstances, send my boss a "status update" from the field. Now I have a whole email full of completely unworkable, counterproductive, and just plain dumb "orders" that I have to ignore.

I learned who the Swampers are...

"Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers And they've been known to pick a song or two Lord they get me off so much They pick me up when I'm feeling blue Now how about you? "

For years I just figured the area was known for its swamps.

Eight year old girls are very dramatic. I should have had all sons.

Honestly you can make it providing you are able to go see each other every now and then. It just majorly sucks. If I can make it by the time I am done for 4 years of long distance I am pretty sure anyone can providing the girl is right.

Hell, I was just going to say, "welcome to being an adult".

now take what you just said and make it the last 19 years of your life, that is what being an adult is.

It's not all bad though, you get to sleep sometimes and then there is the release of sweet, sweet death.

You can make it through! I was in a very similar situation last school year (Project Manager FSAE, long term, long distance gf).

A formula team needs a few dedicated people and a bunch of pee-ons to make it work. Don't let any of them get away with crazy, time intensive ideas if you don't have the manpower. For a small team, just finishing all the events and being able to defend your design will get you high in the points standings. Endurance will be the longest 20-30 mins of the year for you) Just stick to the basics and get as much testing time as possible.

For the gf, see if you can get here interested in what you are doing, as it will make getting away with long hours in the shop much easier. I eventually had mine helping with engine swaps on the dyno while I took care of competition planning.

I'll drink a beer for you tonight. Hit me up if you have any project managment questions or just want to bitch.

I'd like to tell you it gets better, I'm one of the luck few from the class of 2009 that actually have been employed for more of the last year than not... Somehow got promoted to management today for apparently one of the few people in my office that bothers to do any work, and I still hate my job. At least when I get home I don't have six hours of systems and controls homework. And the money, that helps.
