It is possible to find a good rifle at Big 5 though make sure you check them out. Check the stock for cracks, check for any rust or pitting on all metal parts including checking the barrel carefully. When checking the barrel it maybe difficult to see without a proper bore light, however a quick make shift way would be take a piece of white paper use that to reflect light down the barrel (though it maybe hard with the rather long barreled 91/30). Also always check for any they might have in the back (most will only have 2 or 3 on the wall) so that you can pick the best one possible. Also the barrels maybe "dark" compared to modern rifles but still check for nice sharp rifling.
The problem with ordering online is you have no idea what you are getting until its at your door step so it is kind of a crap shoot. Some places will "hand pick" a rifle for you at an additional charge.
I was going to head to the closest Big 5 to pick up a 91/30 today though had some things come up. Maybe tomorrow or I will just wait. I'm still trying to decide if I want to buy an elk tag for this year.
Ive bought 3 Mosins so for through J&G
Their prices move a bit, but when they are at the low its usually the lowest you can find online. Same for ammo.
I've got a Mosin I've hardly fired. I can't say that if that was they only rifle I owned for the rest of my life that I'd be undergunned. I'd rather have my M1A/Garand/Ishapore Enfield but with my eyesight the Nagant would do.
I was told the Russians shot Mosins on their Olympic team until the 60's. They're accurate enough for most civilian applications.
The Olympic Mosins are way different, but do use a more polished version of the 91/30 action. When I'm off the phone here I will put up a pic
Polish resistance Mosin-Nagant pistol.

Well you better fill out this form.

then get passport pictures made, and attach one to the form.
then go to your local police department and get fingerprinted, you attach the fingerprints to the form.
then get your local law enforcement to sign the form.
then send the form along with a check or money order for $200 to BATF.
And then you wait
