The State of Texas says they got the vaccines on the 21st and will start with nursing homes on December 28th. Mom will probably be dead by then. This State's response to this is a joke. The Kardashians will be getting it on TV before that. Have a berkeleying merry Christmas.

The vaccine exists, but there is a very limited supply of doses. Less than 1% of the population.

Yes, some nursing homes have received it, but no one has said all nursing homes have received it.

Please consider seeing a medical professional for your anxiety. You are off the charts. You've  gotta keep yourself mentally healthy if you are gonna be worth anything to help your mom.

You mean a quack? My cheap health insurance doesn't cover that. I don't need to be drugged. That would just make things worse. If I wanted to drug myself into oblivion the illegal pushers at the Texaco station would sell to me cheaper.

Even a clinic or the county mental health department is better care than no medical care, or looking to a bunch of car guys on the internet for medical help.

You've been causing yourself harm for 5 months since July, and posting it here in this thread.  It's terribly unhealthy.

Please seek the help of a medical professional.

I love these "medical professionals" who offer diagnosis from a few message board posts.

There are good docs and meds out there for anxiety.  I started Buspirone a few weeks ago to take the edge off things and it's so much better than when I tried Zoloft. It's not strong but it makes things a bit more manageable, the first drug I've tried that didn't have any effect on my personality or function just a little help to cope with the current E36 M3show.  I got it from my regular doc as insurance coverage for mental health is a joke everywhere.

I have been studying these guys.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoicism

They have a lot to say about dealing with hard times without using drugs as a crutch. Doc in the Box isn't going to spend a whole lot of time with me anyway. It's not like I am important enough to get a lengthy work up at Walter Reed.

My younger sister was a meth addict. She died many years ago. Not a path I want to take. She went to all kinds of doctors, therapists, hospitals, you name it. Took all kinds of drugs, legal and illegal. Ran up big bills. Blamed the whole damned thing on my Dad's alcoholism. She had good insurance and Dad felt guilty and had a lot of money. And still they still couldn't cure her.

We are just trying to tell you we care and are concerned. Nobody's trying to be your doctor.

Consider it this way... if your mother could read your posts and this thread, what would she tell you to do?  Listen to Mom.

I am not passing judgement or in any way offering medical advice. I am suggesting that your posts seem to indicate that you might benefit from seeing someone who IS a medical professional (because I am most certainly not).

Several people have said this to you based on the things you have said.  You are saying things that are extreme.

We all have mothers. Many of them are at risk and in nursing homes (including mine). You are the only person on this board who has kept up the intense commentary for 5 months.  Bloody knuckles, ready to swerve in front of a truck, intense anger and blame, etc.

This isn't rocket science. It's clear you are struggling, concerned, frustrated, and fearful.  I completely understand and support you.

There is no shame in asking for help. Ask the right people who actually CAN help.

this. I sought psychiatric help over a decade ago. It helps. there are clinics and locations willing to help and help cover the cost of treatment. Believe me when I say you really should talk to at least a counselor if not a psychiatrist. It will make your quality of life better. I fought going. I was "a man and men handle things". Well, come to find out sometimes you can't. Sometimes genetics screws you and you have a chemical imbalance that prevents you from being happy and enjoying life. And in those cases you will need medicinal help. It's OK. There are millions of us out there. We've all been through it. It sucks. But there is help. You just have to reach out to it.

@Wally, the wife's insurance pays 100% of all mental health treatments. In the almost 2 years I've been going I haven' paid a single bill.

I haven't seen anyone on here try to be a medical professional. Only a few concerned guys suggesting you see one before you harm yourself farther than you already have.

Would you rather they just ignored the obvious? We are a group of problem solvers. We can't listen and commiserate without trying to help.

If you don't want suggestions, just say so. I'm fairly certain we will ignore that and offer them anyway.

Sorry if I came off a certain way, I just want to see you come out the other side of all the crap that's out of all of our control.

I've seen a therapist when times got tough for me and had medication short term that did help. Your experience may vary, but I'm telling you so you won't feel alone if you seek the help. Society has too much stigma on this stuff.

You saying "we all die" and "nothing matters" are showing up as big red flags to a lot of us.

All of this. You started this thread in July. A little ways up this page you stated your mothers NH won't get vaccines until the 28th and "she'll be dead by then". She's made it 5 months, she'll make it another week. Have some faith. ITs OK to be frustrated and angry. Letting them control you though is not OK. I've been there. I know what that is like. Getting that monkey off your back with some professional help is so liberating. Trust us. We've been through it. It helps. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE seek some professional help. You need it just like I did 10+ years ago.

I understand not taking meds, I resisted for a long time and the few I tried years ago were pretty bad giving me other problems. Sometimes life can be a lot to handle and there's no shame in asking for help to get by.

The worst part is the steady drip drip drip of bad news from the nursing home.

It might actually be easier if she just died, we did the funeral, said goodbye and moved on. But no. Yesterday, 4 people infected. Maybe her. The day before that 2 employees that may have worked near her infected. Three days ago, another resident infected. Five days ago four more nurses, drip, drip, drip, drip...

It's enough to drive anyone insane.

In reply to Snowdoggie (Forum Supporter) :

It might be time to move her.

My wife's father is in a home. They have had 10 employees infected and 2 residents since this all started in March. They have a procedure, their people are sticking to it and it is working.

Maybe her home just can't get a handle on the situation or their staff won't follow procedure and you need to find another place for her.

The thing is that business is slow and my health insurance is crappy.

Getting a nasty bill from Doc in the Box for poor health care will just add to the stress, NOT cure it.

Apology accepted (though certainly not needed!)

I've had bad experiences too. Doesn't change the fact that I still need the help of professionals sometimes.

Feel free to jump on me anytime you need to. It won't hurt my feelings at all. As long as you get the real help you need.

In reply to Snowdoggie (Forum Supporter) :

Can you find something to occupy your mind so you aren't caught in a cycle of worry? Do you have a hobby you have ignored for a while. Get back into it. Distraction works almost as well as drugs and costs a lot less.
