Finally picked up my new truck; 1996 GMC 1500 (Sierra SE), 102K. So far I've got the front mud guards on, the back require removal of the wheel. I've got KYB MonoMax shocks, a larger front sway bar, and 2" drop shackles for the rear to go on tomorrow. I also picked up some Cragar V-Max wheels in black, they look like this:
with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 white letter tires. I wanted to replace the fender trim with black pieces, black out the aluminum part of the side trim, and black out the chrome grill surround, but the black fender trim was on back order for 5 weeks, so maybe later. Anyway, I'll put up some pics when I'm done with the changes and clean it up some. I also replaced the passenger side mirror today.
Awesome, I love my '88 Chevy 1500. There's just something about the v8 burble, huge bench seat, and giant windows that makes me want to drive it everywhere.
If you black it all out, raised whites will look great, like friedgreen said. Adds that contrast that it will need.
I love those trucks. Had a long bed a few years ago quite similar but not as pretty. No pretensions, just basic truck, but look damn good doing it

Definitely planned on the tint, now I'll need that frame or at least a good GRM sticker for the rear window. Shocks are on, and I installed the mud guards. Also cleaned and polished the hell out of it. Didn't bother with the wheels and tires since the new ones are going on. The shocks didn't make a night and day difference but they do make a difference in terms of pitch and brake dive.
I removed the aluminum fender trim, and painted the replacements satin black. Haven't put them on yet, but mocked one on and it looked great, but the naked look is growing on me.
Here's some updated pics from today:
I love these trucks. Stepdad had one that was lowered 4/6 and was still able to bumper tow a 8 passenger boat like nothing. But his was the ext cab. I prefer the std cab like yours.
That's a jewel you have there!
That looks nice and clean. I'd go in a different direction with the trim and remove it completely myself, but black is far better looking than the bright aluminum that came stock. I agree that white letters look good, but I'd try to find some whitewalls if at all possible. I love a set of wide white walls on a big pickup. Are the pics with the shackles or are you still at stock height?
