Hopefully today is a better day for the pain?

We had a pretty rough night. But they seem to finally be getting a little bit ahead of it. Things should only get better from here.
First 48 hours are the worst for pain, does the pain medication they're giving him seem to be working well? Another thing is that any pain medication can cause some serious constipation. Make sure they're executing a plan to combat that, as well. Glad to hear that your son is hanging in there so far!

They were hitting him with the hard stuff last night. Morphine wasn't doing much.

Oof, that's a hell of a pair of sentences; glad to hear it sounds like whatever they've moved to is working better, and hopefully the trend continues (and the pain subsides ASAP).
Glad it went well and he's on the mend, hopefully the pain eases quickly and the meds are working.
Remind him that pain is temporary and chicks dig scars.
Having your child in surgery, and out of surgery, is terrifying as a parent. Especially anything involving the heart or lungs, let alone both. How are you doing, Nick?

I'm good thank you.
So I had a doctor's appointment myself this morning I couldn't miss. I returned to a very different person than I left. They found some medication that worked. His mom said some type of nerve medication. When I left he said his pain was a 12 on a scale of 0-10, currently he is saying it's around a 4. OT was here and worked with him and PT just left. They got him up and walking, he's sitting in a chair currently. They gave the okay to get the catheter removed. But for the most part seems back to normal.
Thank you everyone for the encouraging words. It means a lot.

For as bad as it sounds that isn't too long before being sent home. How's his spirits?
One positive: any other pain he encounters in his life will be weak. Once you have a 10, everything else is gravy.
May you/family and your dear son rest comfortably this evening and tomorrow find y'all ready for the blessings that make everything peaceful /possible

Oh yeah, been home for a while now. He just woke up from his nap. The staff at the hospital was terrific but we're all glad to be home.
Being home says the doctors thought "it went great now get out of here" to me. So glad to hear he is on the mend.

He's getting better every day. Unfortunately I had to return to work today so I didn't get to spend his birthday with him. But his mom and my sister were able to get him out of the house for a little bit today. I gave him his present yesterday.
