Ok..fill my senses with some new-to-me music
I tend to like everything from The Highway Men -> Evanescence -> Zac Brown Band -> 3 days Grace -> Otis Redding

Not sure what to recomend. Just my new(old) music is Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffet and late 90's top 40.

This, and Ive been listening to Blake Shelton lately.
I've been listening to a lot of this lately: Radio Birdman - Aloha Steve and Danno
Catchy, '70s surf punk.
Old 97s? (alt country)
Nick Lowe? (tremendous rock/pop songwriter)
Elvis Costello? (the man, the myth, the legend, and the attractions...)
Squeeze? (good pop, the lesser known stuff being much better than the stuff I recognized from radio play)
I'm a huge Rush fan. Try samplings from different decades for different feels.
How about Robin Trower?
Dick Dale?
Sam & Dave?
Triumph?
The Cult?
Emerson, Lake, & Palmer?
Jeff Beck (and he's a car guy too!)
Frank Zappa?
The Tubes?
Blue Oyster Cult?
Most of that was stuff I heard bouncing around on the satellite radio this afternoon.
So do the Highwaymen. On paper they should be great. Wiilie, Waylon, Johnny and Kris. Mix them together and you have a slow robber, two klutzes, one knocked off a boat and one falls into a dam being poured, and a lost astronaut. It's a song dedicated to occupational hazards. How something could make such a wrong turn is the most impressive part of the group.

Hmm... Lets see... it sounds like you have very similar taste to me, so I'll throw out some of my favorites, in the order that I think you'd like them.
The Avett Brothers. Folksy, Rocky, really good-y. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqZZlL0l5Uk
Reckless Kelly, along the lines of Cross Canadian Ragweed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlylarCRayI
Justin Townes Earle. Guys dad was Steve Earle and he is named after Townes Van Zandt; he really is a true musician and reminds you what real country music should sound like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf9lvU8_JUo
Randy Scruggs, particularly the album "Crown of Jewels". This album was Scruggs with duets with everyone from John Prine to Bruce Hornsby to Emmylou Harris to Roseanne Cash. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5PCJCpoR4Q
The Kruger Brothers. Because bluegrass/folk played by a couple of Swiss brothers is just so right. I honestly believe the banjoist, Jens, is the most talented musician alive today. Here is a classic played by them; they have their own amazing compositions as well--they've even written a "suite" that they'll play with an orchestra. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qwFHAAuGZg
Pat Green. I really like him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJWnIFlYKjs
Tim Russel... I've just discovered him, but Jerry Jeff Walker and Johnny Cash covered some of his stuff... Some of it is really good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5pbQWhoncY
Matchbox20, more mainstream than anything I've mentioned yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d7EbtLb8ok
KT Tunstall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQmDUEv939A
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Kinda in the middle of jazz, bluegrass, and folk. Really really good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7HqFAPRrUE
I assume you are already familiar with John Prine, Steve Goodman, Bonnie Raitt, Guy Clark, Robert Earl Keen, John Hiatt, Jim Croce, etc.?
If you like Evanescence, check out Within Temptation, Epica and Kamelot.
For the Americana end of things, I really like Patricia Vonne, and Joe Ely if you like "storyteller" type songwriting.

THEY DO NOT! Primus are a power trio of pure awesomeness. The main album to get is Frizzle Fry, followed by Sailing The Seas Of Cheese.
Have you tried King Crimson? Although, like Spinal Tap, there have been 37 people in and out of the band over the years, there are 2 main iterations: the late '60s/early '70s version with Robert Fripp and Greg Lake, and the more modern version with Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and Bill Bruford. That's the lineup I more prefer and I strongly recommend starting with Discipline and moving on towards Three Of A Perfect Pair. For the older lineup, The Court Of The Crimson King is the classic - listen to "21st Century Schizoid Man" at megawatt volume and you'll never be the same.

Still, Primus sucks
(And I'm a big fan. Antipop is my favourite of theirs.)
Fleet Foxes
My Morning Jacket
Ray LaMontagne
William Fitzsimmons
Rachel McCartney
Sera Cahone
Dar Williams
The Low Anthem (seeing them in concert Tuesday)
Sarah Jarosz (seeing her in concert in a couple weeks)
Nickel Creek
Punch Brothers
Bon Iver
Gregory Hoskins
Damien Rice
Chris Thile
I've been really into Jack Johnson lately. Usual stuff is Cake, Pearl Jam, MC Chris, Tool, and a Perfect Circle.
