Hi Everyone,

I've been looking for a thread for newbies to say "Hi". Couldn't find one so I thought I'd post it in the off-topic area.

Looking forward to learning a bit more about performance chip tuning like ecunleashed and superchips.

Anyway...Hi.

Chris.

don't be a Bob Costas, stay away from the canoes, and try not to talk too much E36 M3 or berkeley stuff up and you'll get along just fine here..

Feel free to PM me if you see a canoe, though. I'm happy to sink it for you.

Hi Chris and welcome.

Here, a canoe is another word for unsolicited advertisements and Spam. I think you got the response you see because of the attachments in your very first post.

If you are a canoe, my condolences.

If not, what are you driving? Do you race? Got a hobby?

Dan

In reply to Anti-stance:

G'day Guys,

Sorry about the links. My mistake. I guess I have been a "canoe"...

914Driver - yes, I've been racing as an amateur for almost 20 years... hasn't made me any better a driver. Guess that's why I'm still an amateur!

I now prepare cars for tarmac rallies and circuit racing. I would have chucked-in a link to my business but I'm avoiding canoes ;)

Again, sorry for the spamming.

Good to be here though.

Cheers,

Chris.

BTW, how come I don't receive email notifications when you guys respond????

Also, you mention "tarmac rally" and "circuit racing"... You're not from around here, are you? Do you know Steve???

But all seriousness aside... Welcome aboard, and Good on ya, mate!!!

Yeah, tried that...no go.

Anyway, I'm guessing your forum name would be 'grafmx5' down-under

We run 6 NC models and handfull of NB' and NA's. The NC's are mostly for Targa Tasmania and the Australian Tarmac Championship. The rest are for state level circuit championships etc...

What do you guys call Tarmac Rallies?

Welcome aboard. I see you already know the answer.

(And it's okay to post links like you did if it's an actual question or interest. If all you're doing is trying sell something, that's not cool. Since it was your first post, it looked kind of like it might have been an ad-bot.)

Nope. I'm pretty sure he's talking about staged rallies on asphalt, sort of like the Targa Newfoundland that Keith ran with his miata.

actually ( if I understand it correctly ) it's ok to post links to your business ... if you've worked your way through the Advertiser Playground first ...

I'm sure I'll get corrected quickly if I'm mis-representing the way this works

G'day mate, slow to the party but I made it.

I am Steve.

Tarmac Rallies are stage events held on blacktop, simple enough.

Ask anything in here, someone knows the answer.

Yup, there's not really any such thing as a tarmac rally in the US. They're all on dirt. But if you understand one, you understand the other.

The closest thing we have to the Targa Tasmania is the Targa Newfoundland, but since TN was inspired by TT that shouldn't be a big shock. As far as I can tell, the big differences are in the road surface (much better in Tasmania, which can be a good thing or bad depending on how you look at it) and the amount of elevation change (Newfoundland is all basically at sea level - so you have a better chance of swimming but less of falling off a mountain).

Welcome to the nuthouse! We are obviously missing out on these "tarmac rallys".

Gotta be careful what I say otherwise I'll be paddling up-creek in my canoe.

Anyway, Tarmac Rallies are particularly popular both in Australia and New Zealand. We hold major events in Tassie (Tasmania), South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria.

The Kiwi's are even more dedicated and have some of the most INSANE events imaginable.

If anyone is keen, Google the words Lamborghini on fire (canoe warning). This is an example of the "crazyness" that goes on.

I love the events because it's not only a chance to compete but also to meet a tonne of great people and see some amazing landscapes.

Dont get me wrong, circuit events are fantastic but they don't offer the same type of social incentive.

I'm not a 'youngen' anymore and my competitive days are well behind me so the social aspect at a motorsport event is a real bonus.

I must say, I'm enjoying my time here in the asylum as well....

There's a tarmac rally here in Ontario called the Shannonville Stages. Held at Shannonville motorsports park.

Welcome BTW!

Big Bend and Silver State Classic could possibly be viewed as tarmac rallies - but they're really just one or two stages of one. You see a lot of them in Europe though. There's a little one that's based out of a town named "Monte Carlo" that's well known over there.

You'll need to log in to post.
