Heading to NYC for the weekend as of tomorrow. Anyone got any great suggestions for off the beaten path things to do? I'm planning on hitting up Brooklyn Brewing. I've seen the transit museum across the bridge. Done the art museums, natural history. Also seen the Cooper-Hewitt Design museum which was awesome. Any other suggestions?
Also, the wife and I love eating an interesting restaurants. We did Tao the last time we were there and it just felt pretentious and over priced. We ate at some random cuban place in the upper west side last time we were there and loved it. Suggestions in that vein are greatly appreciated as well.
In return - A bro tip.
When creating your NCAA bracket carefully research small city teams like Davidson, VCU, and U of R. Don't ESPN them off the list because they will bust your bracket.
I suggest a game of Where's Wally. Look for the Prius with the jolly bus line supervisor reading GRM on his iPhone and you win!

If you find yourself in Brooklyn looking for a good dinner and drink, try out Char #4. It's an American whiskey-centered concept with an incredibly deep list of bourbons, whiskies, ryes, etc. The food is really solid, and not overpriced by NYC standards.
Oddly enough I'm on vacation starting friday and headed for VA. The Intrepid was just restored/updated but it's a bit expensive. If you are into Spanish food there's a small place on the corner of Houston and Allen streets, Oliva It gets crowded so you may want to call ahead or try them for brunch on the weekends.
If you like vintage arcade games and beer, I suggest Barcade in Brooklyn/Williamsburg.

I was going to post that but thought it might not go over well.
Thanks for the suggestions guys! We're staying in Manhattan but it sounds like all the cool stuff is now in Brooklyn. Dang it. I'll be there for the brewery anyways so I'll have to get around. Whiskey bars, arcades..cool...
Thanks for the tip on Oliva Wally. We'll do our best to check it out.
Anyone else go any great suggestions?
My friends and I went to a restaurant named Ninja. Good food, cheap Tsing Tao, and a really cool atmosphere. You walk in and go down an elevator, and it's decked out in like ancient Japanese cliff rock and they have all these little rooms you catch glimpses of as you pass. You feel like the Yakuza could be holding a secret meeting there.
Fiat of Manhattan dealership? http://jalopnik.com/#!5784816/yes-that-sign-really-does-say-fiat-of-manhattan
You also have the Ferrari store on Park ave and 55 st. One block north is Mercedes, a few blocks south is Audi, and BMW has a large car and bike dealer on 57st and 11 ave.

For real excitement take a "WalkingTour" of the Bronx. AT night. Seriously though, you have to check out the Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem. It's one of NYC s 38 essentials.

So far...
Saw Pompeii exhibit at the Discovery museum
Reservations at Oliva for tomorrow night.
Doing the Foods of NY in Chelsea today.
Seeing Black Joe Lewis and The Honey Bears.
Now - I love BBQ. I'd love to hit up Dinosaur BBQ. Let me see if we can fit it in.
Dinosaur is good. They are a local (NY) chain.
Great sauce, pick some up in the jar and bring it home.

NYC resident here, sorry I missed this. I'm at my desk now, but in the few seconds I have -
Dinosaur is supposed to be good, never been. Had massive amounts of pig at Wildwood BBQ over on Park Ave in the 20s, also I personally love Bubby's in TriBeCa for homestyle food/BBQ. And they have killer pie. If you can get there before 11am, they have an awesome brunch. If you arrive after 11am, expect to wait an hour. Did I mention they have very good pie? PIE.
Tao is overpriced and gaudy, sorry, could have warned you about that.
If you wander through SoHo on Saturday (perhaps on your way to/from Bubby's), stop by the Classic Car Club of Manhattan and poke around. Very friendly bunch, some cool stuff to look at, but you won't stay long enough to upset the wife.
If you like Belgain beer, you must stop by Vol de Nuit, on West 4th at 6th ave. http://www.voldenuitbar.com/main1.html Very dark, can be noisy, but excellent belgain beer on tap.
For an off-the-beaten-path adventure, try dim sum Sunday brunch in Chinatown, I recommend the Golden Unicorn. Very authentic, be prepared!
More later as time allows

Dinosaur is GREAT BBQ. Original location is in Syracuse, there's one in Rochester a 5 minute walk from my office and the Brooklyn location. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, it's all good, and the sides are killer too.
If you are down near the financial district on a business day ... Ulysses on Stone Street - well, Stone Street in general in better weather. It's a little alley they cordon off and all the pubs/restaurants have table service at picnic tables in the street.
Trinity on Broadway is cool - hit or miss crowd but really cool building... its an old bank w/ the best door ona bar ever.

My friend.. I love Dinosaur and spent many $$ there when I was in college, but never really understood what GREAT BBQ was until I moved down south. People down there are fat for reason.. Deliciousness ozzes out of everything down south.. This place, is one of the best.. http://www.yelp.com/biz/sweatmans-bbq-holly-hill

They sell the sauce at Wegmans now too.

For even farther off the beaten path, go to Flushing. 45 minute trek on the 7 train from Times Square, but so worth it if you're into Chinese food. Also, hopefully you'll find some place to watch both the Spiders and Rams play tonight. What a great day to be from Richmond!

Yep, very far off the beaten path. And since I technically live in Chinatown (I usually say TriBeCa), I've never gone that far out of my way. :)
Did the Foods of NY tour today. Holy crap. Great time. Well worth the cash. Thanks for the suggestion Granth. Did the Chelsea/Meat Packing district tour.

Man. You're telling me. I went to VCU so I've got some interest in this game. If they both win they'll play each other on Sunday. That will divide the city like the Civil War. Wild times.
